I got the rounds that cubrock hooked me up with. (Thanks, cubrock!)
Out of the first 5, I got one failure to fire. It almost has to be a bad primer.
I pulled it down, and its a 180 gn swc over about 8.5 grains of of a flake powder ( Unique? Herco?). Is this a factory load or a reload? I don't see any sizing marks on the cases.

It may be factory. From what I remember Herters used Unique in the 401 Powermag for one of their loads. Is the lead soft? -Lee www.singleactions.com

Its harder than some swaged lead bullets I have with the less than perfect thumbnail indent test.

SOUNDS LIKE A FACTORY LOAD. IF THE BARREL IS LEADED IT PROBABLY IS.

Glad they made it safe and sound. They looked factory to me, as I didn't see any evidence of resizing. Also, the SWC design was unlike anything I had seen before. Sure would like to have a mold of that design just for posterity's sake.

Bad pic, but working with available tools tonight. Barrel did not lead with 4 shots. Fired brass expanded to about .429-.430 at neck, .431-.432 at base.
