I have plans for my next 2 revolvers to be .45 convertibles (a long barrel and a short barrel) but if a clean 6.5"+ .357 Blackhawk runs across my path one of those .45s might just get pushed back... Well, one did and I went for it. I had forgotten how much fun a long barrel and .38s can be! Like tullymars, I'm thinking a K38/Model 14 might be a worthy quest... I had enough fun with the Blackhawk that I put a Match Champion on layawake and I'm looking at rifles in the safe to see what can possibly be turned for something else in the .38/357 family....

awp101, if ya really wanna have some fun, pick up a Marlin 1894C............it's a .357. It's just plain fun to shoot. Carry your SA pistol on your hip and your lever action on your shoulder and have a ball. More fun than a barrel of monkeys.

Like this one? 1894C 357 by awp101, on Flickr It is a hoot but I need to do some tinkering as it doesn't like anything that's not a RN load. SWC .38 are a lost cause. I've only been saying for 10 years I need to do something about it...

Yup, that's my baby............though I don't have a scope on mine. Yotes aren't that far away in Oklahoma. Mine is a Cowboy Ltd II with a mighty purdy hex barrel. God I love that little carbine.

They sure have been accurate in every caliber I have tried them in.

Is anyone commercially casting them? I don't cast and it's not an accuracy issue, it's a feed issue.
I've seen the tips over at Marauder's website but all I have is a brazing rig and I'm not sure that would be enough.

Bump for a great thread that deserves this link: www.darkcanyon.net/MyFriend_The357.htmI've pretty much settled on my .357s as my "do all" revolvers. Anything I plan to do with a revolver can be done with a .38 or .357.

Started carrying compact single stack 9s a couple of years ago and just recently purchased 2 Ruger SPs used. The first is a SP 101 357 3" and it loves the 140 XTP and 9.0 grains of Power Pistol. 1167 fps ten feet from the muzzle. Very accurate and POA/POI are identical. Have a pair of Thailand Jaruwan grips on the beast and it carries nice and shoots well The second is a Wiley Clapp model of the SP 101 in 357 with 2.25" barrel, novak sights and tuned action. Gun has been binding up after 7 or 8 rounds of the above listed load which duplicates Speer's SB 357 load. It also binds up after 20-25 rounds of generic standard pressure 38 Special. No dragging of cylinder on forcing cone so I'm thinking maybe undersized cylinder mouth/forcing cone? Hopefully, Ruger knows as I sent it to them on February 8, 2018 and I've been notified Fed Ex will deliver to my door on Monday. Hope it is fixed as this WC is a real trip to carry if this problem can be solved. I also purchased a Novak night sight for the front sight and installed it just before I shipped it. Using the old style Pachmayr SP grip on the WC.
This packin a short barrel snubbie with great sights and hopefully perfectly running action will be an enhanced trip down memory lane. Carry it in a Bianchi Pistol Pocket #3.
Started carrying K frames for Uncle Sam as a 19 year old kid. Small, handy revolvers, are just cool. Kinda like pocket knives and nice leather.

Some folks poo-poo on the .357 and I'm not sure why. I know one of the custom smiths does. Seems that a bunch of folks (yes, I'm guilty too) trying to make a .357 out of a .327... Why reinvent the wheel? UPDATE!!! I actually had a face to face with the fella who had some disparaging words for the .357 and over the years he seems to have developed a different feeling about the cartridge. We go from bold to old most times....at least that's where I've been heading.....

First cartridge I learned to reload. I like the .357!
Think I could probably get by with a .22LR, a .357 & the 45 Colt.
Mid-sized D/A in .357 is about perfect!

Anything I plan to do with a revolver can be done with a .38 or .357. Three year old thread that just didn't deserve to die. I was surprised at the original comments. It seemed the 357 Mag with the 327 Fed Mag on the bottom side was bracketed by the 44 Special on the top side. That got me to searching for some specs to keep up with the conversation. Found this: gunnewsdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Revolver-Calibers-Table.pngInteresting read. Did anyone else think the price per round was off? Here's the entire article including semi auto calibers: gunnewsdaily.com/handgun-caliber-guide/Prescut

Wish I could buy or build 357s at that price. Velocity/ energy quotes are a little high for a packing 357 with a 4" or shorter barrel, but 357s work as advertised. Had a West German cop visit our Sheriff's Office and I was detailed to give him the tour. He was especially interested in our Smith and Wesson revolvers, and zeroed in on the Model 19s most guys were packing. He said the GSG troops back home loved 357 Magnum by Smith.

That table showed 327 Fed Mag costing $1.19 each. That table showed 357 Magnum costing $0.25 each. 44 special +P costing $1.55 each.
I pay about $.60 for 44 special so the writer is showing twice my cost. I pay about $ .30 for 357 Mag which is excellent. This writer is trying to make a case for the 357 caliber, but I don't think I've ever seen .25 cent 357mag. and like ezekiel wrote, 1450fps 357mags aren't seen much from manufacturers; more like 900fps.
What does the 327 Fed Mag cost generally? ---- I checked online and see $.50 327 fed mag.
