I've always liked the idea of trying a wadcutter as a SD round ( big Meplat ) but hated the thought of tieing up all the case capacity with bullet curious if anyone has loaded a PC double end wadcutter a bit hotter & crimped in a lube groove???

Should make a dandy SD load as long as pressures were within limits because of the deep seating you mention. Seating out to the top lube groove would help quite a bit with powder capacity & fast powders.

Here's my experience, FWIW -- I used a 148 grain HBWC mold from NOE, removed the base pins and cast a solid based wadcutter (173 grains without lube in my alloy, IIRC). Then, after adjusting my seating die for the wadcutter in a 357 case, I loaded a conventionally lubed bullet (I suspect a PC bullet would work just as well) in a 38 Special case and adjusted the crimp die accordingly. The result was a wadcutter crimped in a lube groove in a 38 Special case with the bullet OAL adjusted for the 357 throats in my revolver. They worked well but offered no advantage to me since I have a bunch of 357 brass. Good luck with your adventure.
