If it's what I wanted, yes. It boils down to how much YOU want it and if you want it right NOW, or keep on lookin... BigBore44

Of course I would buy it if it is what I wanted. Forget about all the people online who claimed they paid way less. 90% would be lying and 80% of them most likely wouldn't even own one. Life is to short not to be happy for a few bucks.

That is the going price for a -5...and there are not many out there any more. For a while I saw them bringing close to $1200 but prices are back down to a reasonable level.
I have a -5 MG but don't run hot loads in it. Bought it about 8 years ago because I was so impressed with the Speer .44 Magnum 200 grain Gold Dot Short Barrel load I wanted a gun to shoot some out of. It is Speers 200 grain GD HP made for the .44 Special run at 1080 fps and expands 100% of the time. For practice loads I run 10.0 grains of 231 with a 200 grain Berry's plated bullet. Mild but very effective load.

ps...funny story on mine. Bought it off GunBroker I think...it looked like brand new. Called the owner and he admitted he had only fired six rounds out of Magnum grade ammo from it and decided it was too much for him...

I like mine particularly for mid-range loads. Of course it is capable of full tilt if there became the need.
I'm always seeing posts about guys buying guns at half the price I can ever find them for. I'm sure it happens but I think more often then not they are fisherman's tales. LGS actually "steals" firearms from unsuspecting/uninformed individuals. Perusing the counter one day when an older man pulls up to the counter with a NIB high grade engraved Beretta over-under he bought for his bride upon retirement in hopes she would join him for some upland game. Decided that at 75-80 years of age it wasn't going to happen so with long face he returns it to same store. Store gladly gives him $200 for it. Makes me think of possible circumstances surrounding some of these "deals" reported on the 'net.
$800-900 is not too much for a clean pre-lock N-frame in today's market.

My 629 Mountain Guns are the last guns I'd ever part with. I have a 629-2 and a 629-5.

Way back when, I bought a 629-4 MG when they were new. Enjoyed but had an opportunity years later to trade it for a SSK Beast plus a small amount of cash. Too good to pass up considering a Beast was $1800 or so between gun and work. Since then I have pined for another. I would attempt to get the one my buddy bought at the same time every once and a while. No luck. currently I have/had a 29-4 unfluted I was tired of. Monday a guy on the S&W FB page posts a 629-4 for sale or trade. A few messages later and his gun plus $$ will be coming here for my gun. All is right with the universe finally.
So go get that MG.
