Looking to load up some 500 Special ammo. Anyone have any load data? Trying to figure out its case capacity so maybe can use similar load data like the 50 AE, 480, 45 colt case capacity data? Not looking for hot loads cause the 50 JRH brass will handle that. Also wondering who makes 50 cal light Bullets for reloading and their weights and configuration? Thanks, Dennis dennis.madriaga@gmail.com

1.275 case length I could give some loads but i would like more information as to what bullets and what powder he wants to use. Capacity is 50.00 grains of H2O Barnes makes a 275 grain if you like copper. Cast performance makes a 370 grain (Lead)

Open to any suggestions? Only Bullet I could find locally was the True Shot silver bullet and it's a 370 gr WNFP GC. I'm actually open to any data and Bullets available. Just not sure who carries the lighter weight .500" Bullets? I've seen some AE bullets, but they don't have a crimp although I won't be loading them hot.

Fill it to the base of the bullet with Trail Boss. Carry on.

I get the feeling this is a drive by But what the hey...
1. 275 gr. Barnes w/12-18 grains of long shot. 18 gives best performance usually. 2. 370 gr lead Cast Performance w/23.3 grain of 2400 or 28.3 grs of LIL Gun 3. 300 gr Hornady XTP w/12-15.5 grains of Longshot
4. 440 lead cast performance w/ 10 grains of TiteGroup gives about 900 FPS and can do a LOT Matts Bullets has about 15 choices for the 500 starts at a 325 grain lead.

Thanks for info. Did some trading for a stainless Blackhawk that was converted to a 4-5/8" 500 JRH. When I inquired on ammo, he said no ammo, but he could sell me some once fired 500 S&W Special brass. I'm sure I could use JRH brass, but wanted to load some plinking rounds just for playing. You've done a lot of shooting with your 500 Special?

Dmad, just to let you know the 500 JRH does great with Unique, even in full 1.4" length.
I use the loads listed for the 475 Linebaugh in the Speer loading manual.
Loads are very consistent and accurate. Recoil is close to nothing.
My 500 JRH guns are both BFRs. I trim 500 Magnum brass and load.

I don't shoot 500 Special. I use full length JRH brass.

231 is another good powder for light loads in the .500 JRH.
