First let me say that i'm not one to hold anyone liable for this information and realize the consequences for my actions.
I'd like your advice in helping me if this process will be ok in this one instance for using True Blue for the 41spl?
I've reviewed the starting loads for 38spl/357mag and 44spl/44mag with the same bullet weights and have determined the difference between the two cartridges.
Approximately half of the starting load for the magnum is used for the special in each caliber, again with the same bullet weights.
What do you think of using half the starting load for the 41 magnum as a starting load for the 41 special.
I placed this question to Western Powders and received the default answer....we do not have data for the 41 special (wildcat) cartridge.
Thank for your direction and advice.
Rob

Thank you for pointing me in the direction of the provided links, while i am familiar with them it occured to me to review the burn rate chart and see where True Blue fell.
I found it's faster than Unique which there has been nothing slower than Unique has been suggested that i've seen.
I bought True Blue during the powder drought I thought I'd try to use it up, instead will have it for the 44 spl and stick with Unique which so many have been using.
Thank you for looking.

Rob Rob I am not exactly sure of the info you have given, on cutting the starting load in half. But at any rate if you give me an idea of which bullet you are using or wanting to use it would be better. Lane Pearce used 2400 and I am sure that several others have, and it is slower burning that Unique. Also Power Pistol has been used and it is slower burning than Unique. Bowen built his revolvers and I would not be surprised if Hamilton had some kind of Data. Give me some more info and maybe I can help.

Cherokeetracker,
I have a lb of True Blue, I had said earlier it was Western powder but instead it's Ramshot.
Looking at their data the starting load for the 38spl, 158grn HDY XTP is 4.8grns and for the 357mag, 158grn HDY XTP is 8.6grns
4.8 grains for the 38spl is a little more than half of the starting load for the 357 mag of 8.6grns.
For the 44spl, 240grn HDY XTP the starting load is 6.0grns and for the 44mag, 240grn HDY XTP it is 14.0 grns 6.0grns for the 44spl is less than half of the starting load for the 44mag of 14.0grns.
I'm wanting a starting load for the 41 special.
The 41mag with a 210grn HDY XTP starting load is 9.0grns and I was trying to determine if 4.0-grns of True Blue in the 41spl with a 210grn cast swc and a standard LP primer would be a good starting point for this caliber.
Hope I'm more clear as to what i'm asking for I know sometimes I'm not.....thank you in advance.
Rob

Ok now we have something to work with. Start at 5.0 grains and you can go to 6.5 grains. I do hope that you have a chronograph,, to check things. I do realize that this is not a very large range but that powder spikes quick when you get near max. I am curious to see the spreads on this stuff.
True Blue works great in the 45 ACP. What the powder was designed for I do not know. But the ranges on this powder seem small to me. Especially for anything else. Try it and see what it does for you. I hope to see a good range report.

Thank you for your reply, I've been planning on buying a chronograph and I will. It may be another month or two before I can but I'll get back with the information you ask for.

Was just wondering if you are reloading for a dedicated .41 Special like a converted SAA, GP100 or Blackhawk or is this just for reduced loads in a standard .41 Magnum...

Bob The information I gave was for a 41 Special cartridge. NOT a reduced load, in 41 mag case. True Blue is not a powder to use for reduced loads.
