I have a sweet little CZ 527 in 22 Hornet. I recently purchased two boxes of 45 grain bullets to load. One box is Speer and is marked .223 .The other is Hornady and is marked .224. Both boxes have HORNET included in the nomenclature. Can I use the .223 bullets from Speer or what ? Any Hornet shooters that can clarify. Thanks.

You can use either diameter. The .223" diameter is left over from the early Hornet rifles that were made from Springfield 22 LR training rifles. I believe I remember that correctly.
The Hornet started out as high performance loads in the old 22 WCF.

I have the same gun as you and use the .224 diameter. Also have had the best luck with pistol primers and lil gun powder.

If yours is a later gun its doubtful the 223" diameter bullets will shoot as well as the 224" bullets. Funny you still see some of them for sale from time to time. I think some inexperienced dealers associate .223" diameter bullets with 223 rifles & order that size by mistake. I know both shops I worked in had a few boxes that had been on the shelves for years, we couldn't sell them.

Dick I just saw the word HORNET on the box and bought it knowing that I needed the non typical blunt or rounded nose. When I got home I noticed the .223 and I guess I will sell them on ebay to someone who needs the old style bullet.
