Yeah there will be a few OCers arrested because they dont have a CC permit. Always dummies out there. Ill do what I have always done and keep a low profile. I am not LEO and dont feel the need to keep any "potential" bad guys in line. Then again I dont go into the hood like I used to have to for work. Its all good. Contenders example of calm and polite is something every gun owner should aspire to.
Like all walks of life there are A holes that will love nothing better than to scare people. I wont have any problem talking to them or someone they have upset.

Hmm - People who open carry for the purpose of posting a youtube video are not typical "open carriers" (I think). They are activists - and as I know from myself, you REALLY have to feel strongly about somthing to get out of the chair and demonstrate/provoke/exercise your right (depending on your point of view). Passionate activists often come off as being a bit narrowminded and obnoxious - but they do a good job reminding people what their rights are. In REAL life open carry would be practical for when you go hunting etc - whereas i fail to see the purpose in terms of self defense.
As I have said before - count yourselves lucky you have a strong constitution. Some of the "idiots" in the videos are nowhere near as dangereous as some ppl in high places in American society (and indeed my own....)

Open carry has been the rule here forever, with certain restrictions in Portland. We didn't get any "shall issue" language codified until about 1990. I was permit number 76 after the new law went into effect.
I've always thought I'd rather wear concealed so nuts and other bad guys don't know about it until i draw in self defense. The surprise on the faces of prospective ne'r do wells tell the tale: "whoa, I didn't bargain on that!"
Even when hunting or fishing, I carry a concealed handgun in addition to any other rifle or shotgun. No long gun when fishing, of course. A nylon fanny pack worn high serves double duty to keep water out of my waders, should I fall over, and to carry a Glock, needle nose pliers and a hook sharpening file.

I don't have a carry license yet but when I do get one it will depend completely on where I'm at as to how I carry. from an early age my dad always taught me to try and go unnoticed when I'm out around a lot of people. so whenever I go into the big city I will conceal carry and not draw attention to myself. if I'm just out on a country drive, going to the feed store or on my families land then I will open carry.

Five days in now, and I still haven't seen anyone open carrying yet in this county.

Today makes five days now, and I have yet to see anyone carrying openly. I've seen a couple of butts exposed from the pockets of loosely fitting vests, but that's it.
As a retired LEO, who carried openly in uniform; and for a number of years in plain clothes, concealed when required, and openly when possible, I find some of the opinions posted here regarding open carry to be interesting. I'll start by saying that as of yet I've not carried openly since the law went into effect, simply because thus far I've been in town. It's my belief, that given today's predominantly liberal mindset, business owners will be fearful of the idea that their patrons might be upset by seeing folks openly carrying guns, and stay away if they see them. All it will take is one complaint to make a policy change, especially in a corporate establishment.
Having said that, once I leave the city and get out into the county, I will carry openly for the following reason. I have trained and qualified shooting from both an open carry holster, and from a concealed rig. There is no comparison in the times required to deploy guns from holsters of the two types if equal practice is given to each type. Whenever I worked plain clothes, I wore my gun outside for all the world to see whenever the policy makers allowed it, because it made me safer. Any time you need a gun, you can count on needingit quickly, and quicker means safer.
I know that a lot of folks will disagree and that's OK. I won't try to sway them. Just expressing one guy's opinion.
