Thinking it"s time for a double action. The only one i have is a gp100. Have been buying and using mostly single action which are SBHH in 44 mag. , SBH 45 colt , SBH flat top 44 special and a BFR 500 JRH. Also a single six 22/22mag. . Looking at either the ruger redhawk 44 mag. or 45 colt with the 4" barrel, or the redhawk 45 acp/45 colt. Any thoughts or suggestions. Will be used for target mostly and some deer hunting.

RedHawks are great. I don't think you can go wrong with a 44 or a 45. You can plink / target with light loads in either, and there are good hot hunting loads for both. If you decide to give it a diet of heavy loads nothing is stronger. I have one that visited Hamilton Bowen. A 45 4" that he did all his magic to. Great revolver.
You didn't mention a S&W 629, but unless you have a reason to pass up on them they are worth a look. I have a lot of 'smiths and never had a bad shooter. A 629 can handle the targets and deer you mention just fine, and is lighter. They are usually more refined and better finished out of the box. If it's to be customized at some point however, personal thought is nothing beats Ruger.

They are very hard to get,had 6 come through last summer-sold them all, then it dried up at all the distributors I use.Sold one to a good friend,he liked it but liked the S&W 69 better (wanted a bear gun for hunting with dogs),and sold off the 5032.

Went to the LGS today with the intent to buy either the 45colt/acp or the redhawk 4" in 44 mag. . But there in the used gun case was a 4" redhawk in 45 colt and a 454 casull toklat. Both at good price which is unusual. Took the 4" redhawk home with me. Sure was tempted by that toklat though. Got right out to do some shooting. Very happy with the accuracy, SA trigger is much heavier than i"m used to. Will have to work on that, and accuracy will be even better. Didn"t like the red insert on the front sight, got very blurry for me. Is this common? All my blackhawks i have painted white and don"t have a problem with them. First impressions are good.

I prefer shooting the Redhawk in DA with its single spring design, doesn't lend well to a light SA pull but can still be nice and crisp.
