Righted a "sin" of my youth. Got this 1964 M70 300 Win Mag back when I was 12 and of course being a dumbass kid, I had to have a composite stock. Went to my parents house this weekend and got the original stock so I could correct a 25 year old mistake. If I remember correctly, 1964 was the only year they made the M70 with the wide (~1/8") gap between the barrel and stock.

Look on the bright side - you didn't put much wear and tear on the original wood for 25 years! Plus, your parents didn't toss it out or misplace it! Still looking for my '40's Lionel "O" gauge train, last seen at my parents house 32 years ago.

300 win mag at 12... yep, being a dumbass kid alright! (I won't talk too much, my only pistol for years was a 460 BFR)

This one didn't kick nearly as bad as my #3 in 45-70. I might have even traded that rifle for this one. That 45-70 loaded with 500gr bullets and 458 Win mag starting loads was tough.... So a 300 Magnum was quite a step down in recoil.

I've got one exactly like it.
I bought mine at a LGS.
I saw a Swarovski scope on a rifle that had quote a bit of scabbard rash on it. Closer look and it was a 1964 M70 like yours.
Price tag was $750.
Turns out everybody at the shop was at the Shot Show when the gun was priced and the gal that did it didn't know what the scope was worth.
It shoots great and sits in my safe.
