Have had it suggested to me that this would be a good first mold for my 480SBH. I used to cast round ball and maxis for a .54 cal. rifle yrs ago. Have friend here to help and remind me. Seems to me someone on this web forum or maybe over to the Rugerforum mentioned being in on the designing of this bullet. I'd like to confer with that gentleman if possible ?

Dropped the first bullets from this mold yesterday. Tough getting clean dropped bullets. Friend says there is a break-in sorta, and I need a faster rythem to keep mold hot. Maybe his lil furnace could use a bump up in temp, he's used to dropping .38 stuff. Am happy to find the 60+ lbs of "Zombie Lead" re-claimed from Doc office is useable. Could pound a bullet flat as bubble gum without fragmenting, could barely scratch base with finger nail. Just as dropped, not water quenched or anything added. Took the PC better than the bullets I used last that had to have lube removed. Fingers crossed as to first shooting soon. The mold marked .476 but with our hands/caliper, showing .474-.475 before PC..so..we'll see. These bullets have dual cannelures, not sure why I'd need or want the lower. I'll not be looking for that last 100fps, let alone another beyond. Yikes !

I ordered one of these molds for my SBH, still waiting for it to arrive. I purchased it to hold me over until I decide on the mold i want for hunting, and who knows, it might be the one.

I've not made further progress beyond finding that these bullets with 2 coats of PC won't chamber. Am questioning friends calipers. Too much else here household/family-wise going on right now. Back burnered for a week or so.. Wish guy that had mentioned in thread a while back that he'd had a hand in design would chime in.I'd like to pick his brain a bit ! My searches failing. From what I've heard, this is a good all-around choice bullet for our 480SBH's.

Will do, I am out in Southern New Mexico, looking forward to casting some bullets with this mold. I have been registered on here for a year or so, just never posted.

I have a FA 475, and have both the Lee 400 gr, and the Miha with hollow point capability. Both shoot lights out with 14 gr HS6, either powder coated or sized and lubed.
