I know we don't talk much about current events here but I'd like to know if any of you are stepping up your defenses after recent events. Especially you folks that live in more populated areas. As for me I've gone to carrying three spare mags versus the usual one. Also carrying an LCP. Bought some Crimson Trace grips so I can have a better chance of hitting my target from different positions. Threw a .22 in the truck with lots of shells. Spend a lot more time behind the trigger and keeping more alert in crowds and traffic. Last but not least I've been working on the death before dishonor mentality I had when I was in the service. I guess I mean working on the courage to go to the fight instead of run and hide that seems so prevalent these days. I'm not trying to blow myself up into something that I'm not but I think in today's global culture it is inevitable that these attacks are coming to a town near you and me.

I think, as a society, we are headed to where more are going to be called on in social situations to defend others.
I would hope that i would "go to the fight" if put into a situation where terrorists were committing violent acts here on American soil. Of course, until put into that situation, i just dont know how I'd act.
But i too have been rethinking my arsenal.

It is for sure more on my mind and got me to thinking about having a better supply of factory ammo on hand for various rounds, .223, 9mm, .45 ACP etc. Our illustrious El Presidente, (gun salesman of the year), Obama never misses an opportunity to threaten gun owners with more restrictions regardless the reasons for whatever the crisis of the day is. Its taken months to get reloading supplies back on the shelves to some extent, and now I imagine there will be another run on AR's, ammo etc. soon.

as time goes on there will be less and less people that are willing to go toward the sound of danger and confront it. if I had a wife and kids i'm sure I would think twice about it but right now if an attack in my area were to happen I wouldn't hesitate to try and stop it. honestly i'd enjoy a fight.
I think it very wise for everyone to have a good battle rifle, pistol and as much ammo and magazines as one can afford. I foresee our country being plagued by the camel loving sand dwellers for quite some time. at least until someone has the balls to put a stop to it like we did with the Japs back in 1945.

I've been thinking about this quite a bit too... I have also went from carrying 1 extra mag to three plus the one in the gun. UNFORTUNATELY, I live in NY (NOT the city) so I'm limited to 10 round mags, but not really too big an issue I reckon. I carry a Glock 23 or 20SF. I know many here may not like Glocks, but I shoot it well and it's never skipped a beat for me... I'm actually waiting on a complete upper that should be here Monday. I usually carry in my truck a 12ga pump hd style with good F&R sights, with it is a good supply of Slugs and 00.. If it's not this gun, it's a 44 mag levergun with Skinner peep and a good supply of ammo. I've thought about maybe a scoped 308 in the truck but unsure if that's a good plan? I just think about if the time did come if I was by cover, I could surely do damage if I could see the target. I hope it never happens but it seems like it's Everywhere these days.
What are some of y'alls weapon choices?

switching up from my ultra light revolvers, to my full sized 10mm in my daily carry... as soon as I can get a better holster, & more ammo & components for practice...
I hate to give up my revolvers, so I may also increase my back up ammo with speed strips for my 396

Practically every one of these events involve creeps killing unarmed people at point blank range, and even the shooters in Paris who did have some training missed a lot while in a crowded area where they were trying to kill anybody in the group.
I haven't changed anything. When in Texas I'm in a rural area, and there's a Blackhawk in .45 Colt in the truck, along with a .22 WMR Single Six and a .375 Ruger No. 1, and a grand total of about 20 rounds of ammunition. I've used those same firearms for almost 30 years which makes me better armed than anybody who started carrying a Glock and an AK in the trunk of his taxi about a month ago.
When away from here, I'm normally in places where you can't carry a weapon of any sort, ie, either in major airports or flying etc. That isn't likely to change and the idea of a free room at the crowbar motel does not appeal to me.

Today at 1:20 pm I got a warning call (went out to ALL folks in the area) from the county to stay inside, lock doors and windows. The local PD was looking for a black man, 6'2", 185#, mole on R cheek and wearing black sweat pants & top and sneakers with red stripes... I just kept right on working in the garage. Glock & Ithaca ready and standing guard.... I told my (sheepish) neighbor and they said they are happy I live next to them... LOL I guess seeing how they know I hunt I'm gonna protect them.?.?.? Funny how that works, in a situation like that all of a sudden they're your new bestest friend.... HA :-)
Be safe friends.... BigBore44

Not stepping up my defenses. I usually carry when I'm able, but am unable more often than not. Always pays to be situationally aware though. Right wing white supremacist nut jobs, religious zealots, psycho ex-spouses, and misc. crazy people have been threatening/killing innocent people weekly in this country for longer than I've been alive, and in every corner of the country I've ever lived or visited. We've never had a shortage of crazy people willing to do harm to others, and nowhere has ever been immune. Nothing new happening recently to cause me to change my habits.
Addendum edit for perspective:
Statics since September 11, 2001:
U.S. deaths attributable to "jihadi" extremist ideology - 45
U.S. deaths attributable to right-wing extremist ideology - 48
U.S. deaths attributable to everyday run-of-the-mill murders - 200,000+

That will be riding shot gun in my truck in the future

The unfortunate events of late haven't changed my carry habits, I carry the biggest gun I can for the dress style I have to wear on a given day. Normally a full sized 1911 and a spare mag are on me but I often carry a 2 1/2" Smith 19 because I like the gun and I am extremely confident in the gun, I always have a spare speed strip in my pocket for it. If I have to tuck a shirt in then a Smith 442 is going in my front pocket with a spare speed strip, certainly not ideal but beats the hell out of good intentions and a knife.
As far as reloads, here is the truth guys, we are not cops or military, if the crap hits the fan I am fighting to get my family, friends, and myself out of harms way, I am not bringing the fight to a bad guy in a offensive manner, only defending myself and my loved ones, anything more will be really hard to justify in court later. I doubt I would ever need a reload, but I still always carry one, but if I ever feel the situation warrants carrying 2 or 3 reloads I'm probably not going. Multiple reloads are for prolonged battles, bad guys don't stick around and duke it out when a good guy shows up with a gun. And most of the time the first well placed shot will win any battle, hit the son of a bitch in the boiler room or head and it's over, just take the time to make your shots count because when fractions of second count you don't have time to miss regardless of how many reloads are with you.
Just my two cents.

I hate to give up my revolvers, so I may also increase my back up ammo with speed strips for my 396 I have to admit, my Glock 20 10mm has been seeing a lot more carry time than the J frame or GP100 lately for me when doing much more than walking the dog... I live and work in a large city in SE Wisconsin, and things are getting crazy enough around here that my 'stepping it up' has more to do with local events than events in Cali.
