I wanted to take the coyote pair that's been nosing around my back porch, making a nuisance of themselves to my dog and threatening the cats. So, late this afternoon I set up my favorite hunting blind as seen below. Guests seldom if ever use the "guest room". So what the heck, somebody ought to get some use of it. Mrs. KAP was working late, thus, no one home to tell me "no". First rate varmint sniping post, I think. No ticks, no mosquitoes, and a pitcher of peach iced-tea in the fridge downstairs. I bust a half dozen or more of the mangy critters each year from this very spot. Here's the view of the backyard. They den somewhere on either or both sides. The following pics show the rifle chosen on this date. Note the 12 sided barrel. I'm told that's a dodecagon. In this shot, you can see the hedge that Mrs. KAP kept pestering me to trim. I finally gave in and did it. When she saw it from an upstairs window and realized that I had fashioned it into a huge double-headed device she had a fit. Though, I think she's grown kind of partial to it now. So, directly, the coyotes came into view. First one, the male, and then the other, his mate. They wouldn't close the distance this time and since I don't practice 1/2 mile shots often enough (ever), I let them have their day. I will get them though, and I'll try to capture it on video and do a follow-up report.

Reminds me of a coworker who noted that a chair from her formal dining room was missing... When she queried her husband she found out that it was in his shooting house...

Better luck next time. And BTW, great looking back yard...you must have a large lawn mower. ;D

Nice area to shoot,I do hope you catch up with them. Do you think the .204 Ruger cartridge is sufficient? I understand it's quite a light bullet.

when i was younger i used to pull the indoor blind trick from the second floor. usually plinking with the 22. this one memorable day there was a critter out a little further so i did the humane thing and grabbed something a little bigger. imagine dear old mom's surprise when she arrived home early and heard that '06 speak. that was a painful night.

Sat in the chair only a few minutes this evening before they appeared. I had placed a little remote squeaker at the base of a fence post 100yds distant. Didn't even turn it on until she was practically on it. You can see her go alert when it starts, right before the shot, but you can hardly hear it squeaking. 110yds. Before the shot, you'll see her chomping away on something down there....smashed pumpkins. The second one gets away while I'm fumbling around with the camera. It's a first year girl pup. Don't get sentimental. That's the entry. A view back to the blind , half-finished roofing in progress. Used the upper window on the left.

Fantastic blind and view!! Do you mind me asking in which state you reside, majorKap? I have a brother in Eastern Kansas and his area reminds me much of yours.
You really have some opportunities for long-range shots there. I'd give my eye teeth to have those green rolling hills out my back door. I shot a pellet rifle in my backyard last summer and even that rattled my CFO's cage enough for her to administer a tongue lashing. Perhaps it's good I don't live in such a place as yours for if I had the opportunity to shoot 100+ yards from my bedroom, I'm not sure I'd get any work done around the house.
Anxiously waiting your follow-up report with pics of a couple dead dogs! ;D
Max.
Added 1 min after my initial post: That follow up report took no time atall!

That is a neat video, KAP. It didn't even look like she twitched.

If you look closely you can see the tail wag a time or two, but not because she was glad to see me.

I worked in the Lexington area in 2005. The drive to Paris (Bud's Gun Shop) sure is pretty, with all the horse property.

Yep, there are some incredible thoroughbred farms with lots of dry-laid stone and white plank fences around here for sure. Bud sold his shop in Paris earlier this year and opened another on Winchester Rd. in Lexington. He is catering mainly to law enforcement types.
