Using Hornady's 325gr XTP, and IMR4227, I've gone from 24, to 24.5 to 25grs. Using a CCI300 primer. I'm liking what I see, but recalled, and looking at older manuals see mostly mag primers being used with that powder back then. Data I've seen lately is useing WLP's which I've never used. Sooo, come colder weather, am I gonna regret using the CCI300 primers ? I've always, and only used CCI primers. No real reason, they've just been available. Opinions wanted. Time short to hunting season. Plans for next yr include a Lee mold for bigger flying wads of hurt. Help.

I would definitely use magnum primers with IMR4227.
I've been using IMR4227 in 45 Colt with the Winchester Large Pistol primers, which are supposed to be magnum, but I have my doubts. I get great accuracy but lots of unburned powder. So much that it showers all over me.
In the 454 Casull, IMR4227 burns better with the Winchester Small Rifle primer. Very little unburned powder. So primers do make a difference, and Winchester primers might not be a full magnum primer?

I use a lot of Winchester LP primers with 4227 & as mentioned they are labeled for standard or magnum loads which always confuses me a bit. I use it mostly in my 480 with 21 grs & have never had a problem even in cold weather but I plan to do some experimenting this winter using the chrono to find out if there's any real change in velocity.

Thank You Sixshot. At this time, with a trip to No.Va. for T-Day and a quick turn around for Penn deer gun season, I just don't have the time left. Will have to shoot as best I can with crossed fingers. When time allows will switch the load over to CCI350's which I have anyway, left over from H110/WW296 days. I have found use for them with FFFG loads. Fun stuff ! Uh oh, ground is disappearing, yup, snowing out here in NE Ohio.
