This july 4th it will be 15 years since i smoked a cigarette, and they still smell good. I smoke my pipe but do not inhale, i think some tobaco is luckier than others, this year i was smoking Christmas spice and shot a nice 7 1/2 point at 60 paces with the old Ruger NMBH 4 5/8" in 45 Colt.

I started smoking at the ripe old age of 16 sometimes in 1970. Though it made me look cool or some other stupid crap. Only smoked menthol's. Couldn't stand the taste of a cigarette without it, that should have told me something!!! I was up to 3 packs a day when my son was in the Army, in Ramadi, Iraq when that was the most dangerous place in Iraq. He had had his Humvee blown up with an IED, barely got out of an ambush alive where their convoy was surrounded. He had lost as he said "the best soldier he had ever commanded" in an IED attack & lost his best friend to a sniper. And he told me all of this, which I really didn't want to hear about it until he had came home. But I got phone calls from him telling me this each time it happened. Guess he needed someone that cared to hear it. But on August 2, 2006, at 11:57 pm, I went outside with the last cigarette in the pack, smoked it to the filter until it went out, threw the filter in the yard, came in the house, threw the pack in the trash & haven't touched one since. That was at 12:05 am, August 3, 2006. My close friend that also happens to be my neurosurgeon told me I'd never quit as long as my son was in Iraq. I showed him! I've never had any cravings. Yes, I did & still could smoke one the size of a telephone pole but it's not on my mind all the time like it was the other 100 time or so that I had quit before this. I was having really bad breathing problems, that's why I decided to quit. There's no doubt in my mind that if I hadn't of quit when I did I'd be dead now. I told my wife if I ever smoked another cigarette to go get my .44 Magnum & shoot me in the back of the head because they were going to kill me anyway if I started back smoking.
To all those here that have quit smoking, good for you!!!!!!!!!!!! For all of those here that still smoke, please quit! Life is too short. As my mama used to tell daddy "why do you go around with a campfire burning under your nose".
As my wife told me a few weeks ago to think of all the guns I could have bought with the money I pissed away on cigarettes. I could own Smith & Wesson!!!!

I'm wanting to quit. I have had it on my mind for awhile now. I actually did quit a couple months back but here I am doing it again. I just need to Really get away from this dumb habit. It'll give me more money towards more toys and components BigBore44

I feel for you folks. My parents set a good example for me. When the very first surgeon generals report came out that there MAY be a link.. They both quit by the end of the month. Mom did eat up our halloween candy about as fast as we brought it home that yr.. But no peer pressure or wanting to be cool ever got me to even try a smoke of any kind. I don't feel that I'm amongst the strongwilled types, so am glad to not find myself now fighting this issue. Beer on the other hand.. sigh.

I saw that! . Does it appear there are signs of "sense" starting to appear? Mstem I did a presentation on the costs of smoking for a speech class I took a couple of years ago. I made the mistake of figuring out I could have purchased a brand new, fully loaded, full bore Subaru WRX or Mitsubishi Lancer Evo (Evo X IIRC) outright and still have enough left over for an extended warranty/maintenance package. That hurt... cfo, I tried patches, some anti-anxiety pill that they found helped people quit and Chantix. The first 2 weren't worth the effort and the Chantix damn near killed me. Stupid autocorrect
