Smoked for 30 years and I was able to stop more than 11 years ago. Hardest thing I ever did. " Little Willpower", takes more than that. Not a day goes by that I'm not made aware of how glad I am that I did.

I understand Jerry Reed quit smoking but I don't know how long before he wrote that song that he did. I'm doing the e-cig and down to 2mg of nicotine. Next month or the first of the year I'll go to 0mg.

Im about a dozen years off smokes. Every once in a while I'll pick up someone's pack and inhale...God I still love the smell! It reminds me that I can never be a part time or occasional smoker. And I am grateful everyday that I finally stayed quit after many tries.

I quit the first week in June, I've tried many times in the past but this is the longest by about 4 months. I still crave. I hope I can continue.

I guess I'm smoking vicariously through them...

I smoke too. Lost my mother last year to cancer (she smoked too) and my father is sick with cancer as well (also a smoker)
Even with above obvious points of motivation ITS HARD. Other than showing some spine - does any of you ex-smokers use (or used) some of those nicotine "things" you can buy? (gum, plaster etc etc)

I have used everything that has ever been marketed as the latest and greatest. I'm now moving in on 6 mos with out smoking and this time I just quit cold. When the urge comes on and it still does many times a day I fight it by doing deep breathing and telling my self I'm not a smoker I'm not a smoker till the urge goes away. Within a week of not smoking I could not believe how vile the inside of my PU smelled. I had it deep cleaned, cost 100 bucks but it was worth it. Never again for me, good luck you can do it.

I smoked for 19 years and tried at least once a year to quit. I finally went on the patch. It was supposed to be a ten week program but after three I was done. I haven't touched tobacco since. That was 1998. There were times the first 3-4 years when I crave a cigarette but no more. In fact I'm worse than a reformed whore now. I can't stand the smell of them or the smell of a smoker.

Gave it up about 30 years ago, cold turkey, first try. Never looked back. As I see it we as a society have been so brainwashed by so many things that "they" say we cant do without one form of help or another that many end up believing it and then have all manner of trouble trying to break a habit. Easiest was to break a bad habit is replace it with a less harmful habit that you can stop easier later. When I quit I just started chewing more gum and had a tooth pick sticking out of my face for most of the day. A lot of the smoking thing is the so called oral fixation and keeping the jaw going with gum and the toothpick in the mouth really helps. Later I just begin to naturally taper off the gum and the picks to where I rarely do either anymore, unless called for. My dad unknowingly gave me some incentive as well. I walked up to him and told him I had quit smoking and he said "yeah right, that'll last quick". Well having been off the smokes for a few days and a bit jittery, I jumped all over him and said, "well up yours pal!", and stormed off. Of course after having done that, there is no way I could ever be seen smoking again, at least by Pop! So I was done.

have never really smoked - but have decided that when the "vice patrol" makes tobacco illegal - I may start....
