I was hoping you all could help with a customer maker, my efforts havn't been productive.
I have an itch for a 41 caliber percussion rifle, doesn't help that i've ordered a .410 round ball mold from rcbs either.
i've done some internet searches and made a couple of phone calls to ask but to no avail.
Does anyone know of a maker that I can contact?
Thank you for looking.

a 410 round ball would need a bit bigger bore, maybe even a .420 to be able to load the patched round ball. the custom barrel makers could probably make one, though they very commonly produce .40 caliber muzzle loader barrels and they are quite popular. I think I would go with the 40 and just get a different round ball mold. the American long rifles forum is the spot where collectors, builders both amateur and professional, hang out, as well as the top barrel makers and lock makers, etc. and many times rifles and barrels are for sale there: americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=omv8sk58ncid9b0945d11br724&and this place has barrels, kits, parts, and consigned finished guns, etc: www.trackofthewolf.com/Index.aspxgood luck. muzzleloaders sure are fun.

I have spent a lot of time at muzzle loader shoots and with die hard shooters and I have never heard of a 41 cal. If you want one it will probably need to be custom made. All of my front loaders,36,40,50,54 and 58 cal shoot best with balls .05 below bore size and .010 to .015 patches. Muzzle Blasts/NMLRA would be a good place to check. A good friend of mine builds and shoots traditional rifles and Ill ask him about it.

On the Rugerforum is a gentleman by the name of Tom Black, I'd contact him, there. Also call, contact Dixie Gunworks and the Log Cabin Shop, in Lodi Ohio. Luck. Many odd calibers popped up back in the day, due to having crusty, cruddy barrels reamed and re-rifled. But then the 'Smith that did the job would also make you a matching mold. Luck to you.

My son married into a gun family. His FIL is Jim Chambers. (You can look him up.) They sell a lot of kits & stuff, and my DIL helps run the business. I'll see them Thursday,,, I'll ask about a 41 caliber.

I think you should probably take any response contender gives as gospel... That would be the equivalent of asking Bowen about Blackhawks...

That is an odd mold size for certain and would require a custom made barrel. My 40 cal loves a .395" RB. A 40 is an excellent small game caliber, marginal at best for deer. Plus, a lot of states have a minimum of 45 caliber for deer. I guess it all depends on what you want to use the rifle for. I've shot ML for 43 years, ten years ago I took up flintlocks and I've never looked back. I have a beautiful custom made 56 caliber Hawkin-percussion, I've not shot it since I started using flintlocks. They are addictive and people either love them or hate them. My good friend and master gun maker, Mike Miller of Paducah builds my flintlocks. Last time I asked him he was 3 years back ordered. But he is well worth the wait. Tom Black Cantucky

Ok, I spoke with Jim at length Thursday. To get a true 41 cal built,,, would be a big expense as nobody makes the cutters needed, and the cost of custom cutters is quite high. He did however say that you could get a 40 cal, and have a quality shop do a "clean-up" polishing to where you might get enough done to use .41 cal stuff. I'm not an expert,,, and some of what he said was a bit beyond my knowledge level in building them. But basically, a 40 cal, (which is more readily available,) should be around .400. A .41 cal,,, being .410 means that a clean-up of the bore only needs .005 on each side to give you the .41. If you'd like to discuss it with them, I can provide you with info & maybe they can help. PM me.
On a side note,,,, Jim & I were discussing a lot of different stuff, and ivory came up. He dug out a piece of elephant tusk, already marked for Colt grips, & let me acquire them. I had a GOOD thanksgiving!
