Not for 300grs, but I did some shooting with some 275 XTP's I had a while back. Unfortunately they are no longer available because they shot really well, with 2400 and H110 in my Ruger Flat Top. 4227 is another good choice for such loads.

I know Brian Pearce has published some H110 loads for cast bullets at 1050fps but that was the redline limit and strongly suggested against jacketed 300gr as the velocity was low enough they wouldn't reliably open and might stick in a barrel he said. Just his two cents.

If I were to want to shoot a 300 gr. bullet, I would think 44 Mag or 45 Colt would be a better choice than 44 Special. Just my 2 cents...

I shoot a hunter's supply 290 (nominal 300) in my RUGER .44 Special over 13 grains 2400 for 1070 fps. That is a working max for me and my gun. Start lower. I would not put this in my Colt. I would not hesitate to put it in my FA.

I'm all for the heavies But, I also think that trying to turn something's into a Magnum can get you into trouble. The 44 spl is just that "Special". It's a fine caliber and pleasant to shoot, but imho should not be pushed beyond its limits. Just my .02 cents and I'm Not trying to throw rocks here Best BigBore44

Ahhh..Matt. Yup, am familiar and about due to order some more. Wish he'd pick up some 480 molds..hint, hint. What are you hoping for, in using that bullet in a 44spec ? I'm all for experimenting to our hearts content. Just keep it safe. It seems to be a softer bullet and doesn't need lots of velocity. I guess if you have the itch for a 300gr bullet in a 44spec, this may be the best choice anyway. Have fun. Oh, like to know what handgun.

My plan is to run these at 900 f/s and see how they (gun/bullet) perform. The Ruger Flattop Bisley in 4-5/8" and 5-1/2" barrel lengths will be the main platforms and possibly a 6-1/2" M24-3 as well. Probably get out this week to run some test work.

Was able to test a couple loads today. These were shot with hands out front of bags at 25 yards. Gun: Ruger BH Bisley Flattop 5.5" 44 Special Top left and center: 300 grain HP .430 (Matt's Bullets) 9 BHN 15.0 - H110/CCI-350-Midway brass (new) Velocity - 1016 f/s ES15/SD6 Top right: 300 grain HP .430 (Matt's Bullets) 9BHN 13.0 - 2400/WLP/Midway brass (new) Velocity - 1002 f/s ES56/SD21 Very pleasant to shoot. No extraction problem.

What kind of material are the grips on your 44?
Nice shooting BTW.
