I'll give you a review..... Kimber Montana 257 Roberts purchased 11/7/2015 Installed Burris Fullfield II 3X9 on Kimber bases and Leupold rings. Made 40 rounds of 120 grain Speer Hot Core bullets over a near max charge of hunter powder. Sighted rifle in 11/11/2015....mildly impressed with initial groups, want to make some loads with 100 grain Nosler Partitions. Groups were all within 1 inch at 100 yards. Good enough for whitetails. 11/15/2015 9:05am....shot 200 pound 6 pointer at 70 yards...he bounced 3 times traveling about 30 yards and died. Kimber Montana GOOD GUN!! SAAWEET!! Sounds like you've got a great combo.

I love this little rifle!! Sat down last night and loaded some 100 grain Nosler partions over Hunter and H4350 to test this weekend. After I take another tasty whitetail of course. This set up is near perfect for my style of hunting, its light accurate and weather proof. It would be great in several calibers, but the Roberts suits me fine.
You know whats really sick though....I still want a Montana Rifle Company X2. Maybe in 25-06.....Hmmmm Christmas is coming soon.....

Don't know anything about the "new" version of the company, but folks scared me away from the originals. (I was eyeballing a rifle locally.) They looked good but wasI reading lots of talk about quality control and them being really hit and miss. You could get a good one or an awful one. Didn't need any more of that in my life so I passed.
(Edit to add: Reading this again, I realized I didn't even note I was talking about the MRC.)

Fair enough. A roll of the dice for sure at many different points in Kimber’s varying iterations. Chatting with a gentleman now out of Canada who might sell me his .338WM Montana and trying to figure out how badly I want to go down that road. Quality control aside, ultralight .338’s are not easy to shoot well…. But comforting to carry.

I’m doing a barrel swap on a montana 300 win mag to convert it to a 338 win mag, interested what you find on your import if you do proceed.

Will keep you posted, sir. I love Canada, but my experience with their shipping systems has been less than stellar and I could only imagine a gun seriously magnifying that aspect. But perhaps I’m wrong. Hey, have you considered saving some monies and having JES rebore your .300 to .338? Just a thought

So recently I lucked into a misposted X3. He listed an X2, took an offer I almost was embarrassed to make because I did not want the gun. BTW…It was also a 6.5 CM, I am shuddering to say… yes the bandwagon cartridge that anyone “old school” cannot admit , just works… like MONEYBALL ruining baseball, the perfected design of the 6.5 is immoral since all you need is a .308……
With kids coming up, hunting now, I can get a 6.5 and rationalize….
On to this X3. X2 was less refined and heavier from accounts… M70 design but more robust maybe the best stock I’ve handled on a hunting gun. Carbon fiber with Kevlar. 24” #2 contour is my guess but just nicely balanced with the center just ahead of magazine. The weight is 6lbs 10oz
Scoped it’s an 8lb rifle , not ultra lite but just right. Trigger is M70 in design and adjustable with Mauser 3 position safety. 30 rounds and no load developed. It’s a sub MOA gun and maybe better with a better rifle man behind it. Alloy finish is brushed and nicely matched the 416 SS action. I like the classic lines and the quality of the gun overall.
This is a gun for the Sipe days of ownership, the son on this case but Drake outdoors has them now and they’ve got the 2022 actions/models … I’m glad I grabbed this and I’m a 6.5 convert, it’s just fun.
As to the original post, the Kimber Montana is a great gun and a more sensible purchase in my opinion.

Howdy gentlemen, I got my hands on a Kimber Montana .338 Win Mag recently. I live and hunt in north west Wyoming and just bought a piece of land a few miles east of Grand Teton and a few miles south of Yellowstone. So it’s about to get even more real on the grizzly bear front. This Kimber MT is going to likely be heavily in rotation as a frequent companion. It’ll get a Leupold VX5 3-15X with the Firedot and the barrel will get cut to 24” or 23”. And the kicker, the rifle holds 4 rounds down and you could single load the chamber so you can carry 5 .338 rounds. That’s sweet. At a toral weight or right around 8lbs. All copper projectiles for me for penetration. Anyways, Kimber Montanas are sweet. Snide would agree!
