Ok here is my dilemma..... I want an all weather, somewhat lightweight, rifle in 257 Roberts. I am hung between the Kimber and MRC X2. Anyone own either or have handled either or both?
I have handled but never shot the Kimber Montana, though I own an 84M in 308 and love it, but have never handled a MRC. The MRC weighs a bit over 6 pounds unscoped, about a pound more than the Kimber, but since I am a treestand hunter and dont do a tremendus amount of walking I dont see 1 more pound being an issue.
For the Kimber owners....is the Montana as picky as I have read as far as accuracy and how stock pressure and how the rifle is held affect performance in the field?
I own a Nosler model 48 and feel its a tad chuncky, but damn does it shoot, so I guess I am looking for a less chuncky shooter thats not super finiky in the field. I am really liking the looks of the MRC, but just cant convince myself to spend 1200 on a rifle I have never held. I figure some of you guys have handled both and might have some insight.
Thanx!! Adam

Adam No probs with my Kimber MT and I have put it through the ringer here in AK for 10 years. Rather than re-type my experiences check out these links. I will add that as an FYI, when Kimber decided to build this rifle they hired Melvin Forbes to come in and design the kevlar composite stock, which he pioneered. singleactions.proboards.com/thread/11585/kimber-montanasingleactions.proboards.com/thread/8197/little-8singleactions.proboards.com/post/177635

Many places have 3 or 5 day no shoot return policies.
It may cost you $75 to check one out but is better than getting something you really don't like.
It's cheaper than gas driving somewhere for me.
I don't know about the MRC guns but I personally don't like the Kimber Montanas. Don't know why. Just don't feel right.
I have owned several ULA and NULA guns and like them.

Thats a darned good point! There is a Kimber an hour or so from me, but the neares MRC dealer is 3 hours or more away. Hmmmm, I may buy the MRC and send it back if I dont like it. A call to MRC is in order me thinks.

My 270 Win Kimber Montana recently throwing 140 gr TSX's over H4831SC. Clearly my new favorite that is tempting me to unload a number of fine rifles...

One thing not talked about is the MRC have a Winchester 70 style trigger vs the Kimbers enclosed trigger. May or may not be an issue for you. The MRC action builds up rather nice, this ones a 458 Lott by the now defunct Serengeti rifle company.

I bought a Kimber Montana in 257 Roberts. Mounted a Burris Fullfield II 3X9 and loaded up 50 rounds of various loads to try. It has finally stopped raining so if I can sneak away from the shop sometime before the weekend I plan to shoot those 50 and close to 20 I have from last year. The more I handle it the more I like it. After deer season it will go somewhere to be Ceracoated and I'll paint the stock. More range time after re-assembly.
I am starting, in the last few years, starting to get as crazy about rifles as I am about revolvers and 1911's......Lord help me!

Let us know how the Montana works out. I have one and know of 2 others all in magnum calibers that don't shoot groups, they shoot patterns.

There is a lot of negative reviews on the net about r the Kimbers. While I know a few hear have shooter here.. My cousin has a shooter too but a Google search turns up lots and lots of negative reviews. So many it makes me hesitant to give one a try. Even though there spec look like exactly what I want.

It always seems to me that when we do "searches" we hear all about the bad ones,.? I'm guessing not many of the happy one's with accurate/reliable rifles post as much...? Just a thought... The same with the production model Forbes Ultralight Rifle, mostly bad reviews I read online. I went ahead and bought one anyhow and I love it. Its light as a feather and it plain shoots lights out... BigBore44

I'll give you a review..... Kimber Montana 257 Roberts purchased 11/7/2015 Installed Burris Fullfield II 3X9 on Kimber bases and Leupold rings. Made 40 rounds of 120 grain Speer Hot Core bullets over a near max charge of hunter powder.
Sighted rifle in 11/11/2015....mildly impressed with initial groups, want to make some loads with 100 grain Nosler Partitions. Groups were all within 1 inch at 100 yards. Good enough for whitetails.
11/15/2015 9:05am....shot 200 pound 6 pointer at 70 yards...he bounced 3 times traveling about 30 yards and died.
Kimber Montana GOOD GUN!!
