Is there anyone that offers powder coating to bullet casters? I've tried it a few times but didn't have very good results and I'm not really interested in tinkiering with methods. I probably would only want a few hundred done at a time.

Curious as to what your issue was. I did the cool whip bowl and now on the brass tumbler method. Never had any issue to speak of myself. I mean if you have the powder coating and the oven I am more than willing to help ya as I know other here are too. Jeff

Jeff... I have been thinking about the tumbler method. Do you add black BBs and how long do you mix? A couple handfuls at a time I presume?

I just dumped all my cool whip bowls into the tumbler, BB's and all. My sifter lets the BB's fall through. Dick and Jeff are just using powder I believe. FYI I tumbled some of the Miha HP's and I had to dig some of the powder out. May have been my fault as I left them in there for 15-20 minutes. The tumbler sure does do a nice job though. 10 minutes has done the job so far. As to how many bullets, depends on caliber and tumbler. I can do about 100 of the 480's at a time in my heavy duty thumblers tumbler. It was made for rocks. Jeff

It is so simple a cave man or an old re loader can do it. Just add a hand full of black air soft bb's and a 1/4 cup of your powdered paint into a plastic bowl W/lid of course. Shake around for five minutes or so and then pluck the bullets out with a tweezer like tool. place on a cookie sheet from your $25.00 Walmart oven and bake for about 20 minutes. Experiment on the temperature but it just needs to be hot enough to melt the paint. Let bullets cool and then size as normal except do not use any lubricant.

There are lots of ways to powder coat, you can use the spray method using a spray gun, the shake & bake method using a cool whip container with air soft pellets & the paint of your choice but by far the easiest way to do it is with a good case tumbler. You won't need any air soft pellets, just dump your bullets in the tumbler, yesterday I put 226 of the 385 gr. 475 HP's in my Hornady tumbler, if it were 44's I would dump at least 300 in there. Then about 2 tbl spoons of Harbor Freight Red paint, stick the lid on for 15 minutes & then dump them in a collander & shake for 30-40 seconds to knock off any residual paint. Now they go into the toster oven on some non stick aluminum foil for 10 minutes at 400 degrees & BINGO, they are done! Depending on the power of your tumbler you may have to adjust how mamy bullets you use, don't want to burn up your motor. I've done over 500 9mm's at a time, several times with perfect results. Baking more than 10 minutes is just wasted power. Then size them or, some times we don't even do that. Try some unsized, many times it works just fine. Lots of different colors work, some don't! Want a clean gun........powder coat!
