Just made an impulse purchase of a like new Winchester 88 today. Caliber .308 Anyone have an opinion on this model. I know next to nothing about them but liked the way it felt in the hands. Plan on shooting cast bullets at rocks and Jackrabbits etc. Just like to plink with lever actions. Good or Bad

I have never heard anything but praise about those fine guns.
Think you made a good decision. I would love to own one in 358 Winchester.

I've got one that I restocked in a Boyd's laminated stock, spoke with a friend that had worked with them. He said to bed it first bed the tang block to the stock, then proceed with bedding. I did as told and now have a wonderful carrying rifle that is very accurate and consistent. I'm looking for a second one now!!!

Those are a cult favorite. If it proves accurate, I'd hold on to it for sure!!

I've had three of them 2 in 308 and one in 243 they shot well, but I tend to like the savage 99 more,if I found another 243 I would get it!

The .284 is a handful but one I should have hung on to... That butt plate is not very forgiving and for some reason the design of the gun just hammers the shoulder.

Had one in 308 and it shot 1 1/2" 5 shot groups at 100yds off a bench, with handloads. Had a Burris compact scope of variable power on it. Trigger was mushy due to the design but a simple learning curve. Magazines were the pits, hunted a long time before I found a spare at a high price. Great packing gun and it was easy to shoot well with it.
Screwed up and traded it for a Remington Mountain Rifle in 280. Should have just kept it!
