I have a K1-A in .257 Roberts and a sweet little rifle it is, shoots great and nice but not outstanding wood. I did snag a Medium S in 9.3x74R a while back with super wood. A range buddy keeps offering to take it off my hands! Sort of surprised to hear of the cracked stocks in these smaller calibers. My custom .404 Jeffery had a cracked stock when I bought it, but that's a big kicker.

Nolongcolt, that sounds like a first rate gun you have there.
Finally took a day off from clearing land to get the guns picked up and going.
I changed my scope plans by putting the Nikon 3-9x BDC Scope on the 6.5x55.
I picked out a Vortex 2-7x for the 7.62x39.
Slugged the barrel of the 7.62 and found the unexpected. Seems to be a fairly even .310". Think this may work well with bullets up to .312" and hopefully as small as .308".
Weather is cooling off, so will find out soon. Will start with the Hornady V-Max 123 grn bullets as they come .310".

Shot the 7.62x39 this morning. Loaded 110 grn 30 Carbine & 125 Ballistic Tips for the .308" test. Also, Hornady 123 grn V-Max .310" & Sierra 150 Grn SP .311" for the larger bullets.
First thing I noticed was the typical long throat of Ruger #1s. I really like this characteristic.
I could load the Sierra 150s base to the bottom of the neck and still clear the rifling.
All bullets fired grouped well. I couldn't tell if the gun had a preference. All but one group came in under 1.25", several under 1". All from a rifle rest on a very steady bench.
What impressed me the most is the gun put all bullets close together, regardless of diameter or weight. Excluding the 30 Carbine bullets, all were within 1.35" of the same POI.
So far very impressed with this little gun. A lot more testing and learning for me to do. But so far, so good...

That's good to hear, sounds like a winner. How is the wood on it?

It's nice, but not exceptional. Some of my older #1s are see to believe.
Mostly nice straight grain in this one. Works ok for me. Rather have average wood in a shooter, than fancy wood on a wall hanger.

I hear ya. Most of the ones I have seen on the net are very plain, and a couple are decent, but none exceptional. But I guess at some point it gets harder to find those nice highly figured pieces for stocks.
