Snatched one up this morning. The Ruger #1 is my favorite all time rifle. This particular gun is the #1A, so very light weight.
The solid solid action should provide loading flexibility ranging from cast bullets for the 32-20, to the HP bullets for the 327 Federal, to the heavy jacketed bullets designed for the 303 British.
Hard for me to see a downside to this gun. Plus, a pound of powder will go a long ways.

Please! I never knew such a thing existed! Now I kind of wish I still didn't know...

According to the Lipsey's website only 262 were made. I may eventually post pictures, but unsure.
Do think it's a 32 nut case's dream gun.
I collect Ruger #1s and this will make a fine addition.
I really appreciate the fact that I'm not the only one.

They were also made in 6.5x55 and .35 Whelen... I had a Whelen with just as nice wood but it was NIB and sold it for a lot more than I had into it...

I just bought ( well a little while back ) a CZ Carbine with single set trigger in 7.62 X 39, & it's also super accurate... I've always loved single shot rifles, & want to think I'd love the #1's, but I've never had the funds to try one out... congrats on the rare purchase... I was suprised how much I actually like my little CZ... hoping you'll find the same attraction with your #1

I bought the little CZ about 10 years ago and love it. Hope the Ruger shoots half as good.

The 7.62x39 is a "sleeper" round. Everyone thinks of AKs and SKSs..but in a good bolt gun they easily can equal a .30-30 and a LOT more accurate. I bought a CZ527 when they first came out back in the late 1990's. Excellent shooter with a trigger, both set and un-set, to die for. Traded it last year to Mackay Sagebrush for his Tikka .223 as I have three other bolt guns and didn't have any in .223...he loves it. The friend who I bought the #1 from and his bother-in-law have killed over 60 deer in NY doing control work in an orchard...their gun of choice..Ruger Mini-30....with Bernal 123 HP ammo. Almost all one shot drops. Another friend in Texas who always used a .270 Winchester bought a Ruger bolt gun and after the third one shot drop sold the hard kicking .270. I have three of the Ruger bolt guns. One is a 22" stainless with the BoatPaddle stock, same with a wood stock and the last is a Light Rifle with 20" barrel....all are excellent shooters. Savage made their Scout rifle in 7.62x39 for a couple of years...this is mine at 400 yards... This the 77MKII Light Rifle....first three shots after I bought it... Great round...Bob

I too love the No.1's but most of those you see now a days have wood that is frankly boring. It pays to actually see the gun you are buying to assess the wood first. Nice snag.

Have always loved the Ruger #1s & #3s. My 218 Bee leading the pack, but this one may give it a run for its money. The Bee was bought in 1993, so 22 years wouldn't be a bad reign.
Just ordered a Nikon 3-9x40 BDC Scope for the 7.62x39.
Always liked the Nikon scopes and figure this gun deserves good optics.

Digging around for something else on a certain auction site that caters to gun brokers, I happened to see one of these 7.62x39 No1's listed. I'm not going to jump on it because it's longer money than I have to play with right now but it was under $1K including shipping when I saw it last night.
My bolt action 7.62x39 is built on a 95 Mauser action. It needs a little tweaking (extractor and firing pin for starters) but once that's done I'd like to find a nice piece of lumber for a classic style stock. Not sure I'll go Mannlicher but it's not off the table. I should take pics of it soon...
When I decided I wanted one of the 7.62x39 527's they were no where to be found locally. I agree with rjm on the CZ SST, my .22 Hornet was the same way. My Tikka T3 .308 is extremely nice but it's not a SST and not as nice as that little 527 Hornet!
I've got a few more things I want to get first, but a No1 is certainly on my wish list. I'll probably start with a .30-06 since I've got a few other -06 eaters and they seem to have the friendliest prices.

They were also made in 6.5x55 That could very well be my dream center fire single shot. Blued and pretty wood would make it even better! 7x57 would be close but the 6.5x55 edges it out in my mind. If only they made them in 7.5x55 Swiss...

Just took a look on GunBroker...apparently Lipsey's has contracted for a run of blue #1s in 7.62x39...some are priced as low as $895.00...a handy light recoiling gun...
I had a friend who worked in a shop where a 6.5 #1KA stainless came in...beautiful wood but there was a crack in the pistol grip behind the triggerguard. It was sent back to Ruger and instead of the beautiful wood that it came with, it came back with a nice but very plain piece of walnut...took them a while to unload it.
When I bought the .35 Whelen...same problem. I called and got a return authorization and then put a letter of warning in with the gun knowing what happened to my friend...if it didn't come back with the same AAA wood that it went back with I would hand deliver it back to Newport, NH...it came back with the same nice wood as it had been sent with.
