For me, the heavy loads are all ran in Starline brass. Light loads are mixed mixed between Hornady and Winchester. I see no reason to think my system would be better or worse if I loaded heavies in Hornady or Winchester and loaded the Starline light. But it helps keep things strait.
Starline has help up to maybe a 8-10 loading at magnum to casull level loads. No issues with this brass yet!

FA brass is my favorite. Hard to find though.
Starline is softer but works fine.

Only brass I have ever had an issue with in .454 was W-W early on that got fired a few times in (3-4 @most) in a Raging Bull. they started dying off on 7th loading with cracks suddenly appearing from case mouth all the way back to the solid case head without any warning even when fired in ultra tight FA chambers. would fiire a cylinder full and when ejecting brass hear a metallic bell-like ring and sure enough- FULL SPLIT! that hundred rounds of once fired factory brass didnt last long at all! Primarily use Starline ever since wwwith zero issues

I'm not sure who made the old brass but it was really good stuff! There were several iterations of the early FA brass. Some used Large primers and then there was a version that had bushings in the brass to hold small rifle primers but utilize the older brass then the newest version that was made for the small rifle primer as we know it now. There were also different headstamps on the old brass. I think I have some around here wth NAA stamped on them but I'd have to look to be certain my memory isn't failing me.
This is the brass that FA used in the loaded ammo you used to see for sale in the blue FA boxes.

the original Freedom Arms brass was actually made when Dick Casull was trying to get NAA to produce guns and was stamped NAA 454. this brass had large rifle pockets and made the trip to FA with Dick. Later the bushings were used with that same brass. the next cases were FA headstamped, made by a different supplier and had small primer pockets. Unaware if Jamieson brass ever made any large pocket cases but they were original supplier of cases to CorBon back in the day. Starline has only offered small pockets to my knowledge. the next brass to become available was W-W at time of SAAMI acceptance of cartridge

I only ever used WW in my Freedom and nary an issue. think the spliting issue i had was caused by high pressures and the looser chambers of the RagingBull stressing the cases. that said i primarily use Starline and a few hundred ancient FA cases

I used FA at first & then Starline in my 10" Freedom Arms 454, it held up about the same. Had to size all my cast bullets .451" to get them to chamber. Had to sell it for personal reasons!

What is the old Freedom Arms head stamped brass selling for. Rick Depends on where you find it. Buddy found a bunch of it recently on east coast for $20/box of 50. I think we bought them all. I have found it locally on accident cheap as well. Just have to keep eyes open and it pops up every now and then. Fermin loves my 454, don't let him lie to y'all
