Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has an example of the reworked SBH by John Linebaugh.
Thank you

This is a stainless SBH I had converted by Linebaugh back in 94. It's a small 45 Colt conversion.Cylinder was rebored with a new Pac-nor barrel.

Very, very nice!
Rigby - I don't mean to belabor the point but I notice it says "Blackhawk" and not "Super Blackhawk" on the frame but it appears to be a SBH hammer but it's s non-squared off trigger guard. gripframe. Could it have been a Blackhawk 45 to begin with and the SBH hammer was added?
I'm not a huge fan of the 'dragoon' square trigger guard but I think I understand that the SBHs all come with it and all SBHs are/ were 44Ms.
Like I said, I'm not trying to argue, just to continue my education (GOT to get money for RENE sent!).
Super nice gun. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I know that the 7 1/2 inch SBHs have the Dragoon grip frame. I have one.
I thought that the 5 1/2 and the 4 5/8 SBHs had rounded grip frames though. Could be wrong.

I have seen them both ways... From what I understand if the trigger guard is rounded it is a XR3-RED grip frame Unless the gun is a SBH Hunter... In that case while it has a rounded trigger guard the GF is SBH plus is can be a 41, 44, or 45... All clear? ;D Now you can throw all this out here because we believe in making what we like!

Mark, not to speak for Rigby but it looks like Linebaugh remarked the frame on both sides. Very tasteful I might add. All 4 5/8" and 5½" Supers come with a steel XR3-RED pattern grip frame. All 7½" and 10" Supers come with the square back Dragoon grip frame. All Hunter models came with a round triggerguard version of the Dragoon. That is, of course, unless they're Bisleys.

Craig is correct, Linebaugh remarked it to keep it in line with Ruger. It was originally a 5.5" so that why the flutes and round guard.

I'm still amazed / confused by the variety of barrel lengths and grip frames. I appreciate the enlightenment. I wonder if there was any particular reason for the difference in the gripframes in SBHs by barrel lengths?

Believe me, I've been studying these little details for years and it's still easy to get something mixed up in my head. No idea why Ruger did the Blackhawk grip frame on the shorter Supers. Or the fluted cylinder on the 5½" but unfluted on the 4 5/8". I think they just like to keep us guessing.

That's why I picked the 5 1/2" SBH because of the fluted cylinder and round trigger guard. Bill

John reworked mine twice. Once for a trigger job and a little action work. Second time to change the frame to a bisley.

I wonder if there was any particular reason for the difference in the gripframes in SBHs by barrel lengths? There most certainly was! Many shooters missed the classic 6-1/2 inch .44 Blackhawks, the early design with the flat topstrap. Ruger finally replied with a 5-1/2" .44 Magnum with a fluted cylinder, Super Blackhawk hammer and a steel, XR3-RED sized grip fame. A "packin' pistol", of sorts. Several years later one of Ruger's Distributors, Williams Shooters Supply, IIRC, contracted to have a 4-5/8" .44 mag made. It was spec'd to have the Super Hammer and un-fluted cylinder and the steel, XR3-RED grip frame. That gun was so popular that Ruger decided to add it to the catalog! Now you know the rest of the story. Carl

Thanks, Carl.
I was scheming to find a way to come up with a 5.5" or 4-5/8" SBH, preferably with the Bisley grip frame. Ruger doesn't offer the shorter barrels with the Bisley gripframe as best I can tell but provided one could come up with the gripframe, the starting point would be the shorter SBH.
I really didn't mean to hijack the thread but the pictures got me to thinking about this candidate for the perfect packing pistol.
Of course, a Linebaugh in the same configuration with tight 45 dimensions would be another candidate...

What, like this sorry ole thang? I love a short barrelled Bisley. This one started out as a 4 5/8" Super that I converted to a Bisley and did some tinkering with before sending to Clements for the final effect.
