When Ruger first made their 416 Rigby I bought one for $999 that included two boxes of ammo. Even though I had my 454 I felt I was not ready to try for a Cape buff with a handgun and took him using 400 grain Trophy Bonded soft and solids...

Very cool JFJ -- hows the muzzle brake work on that cannon. Reason I ask is that I shot a custom 30-378 that weighed right at (or slightly under) 6 lbs without scope. The proprietary muzzle brake on that thing is unbelievably effective. Here's a pic of the gun/brake. Paul

Congrats on the buffalo, James! Guess we can forgive the use of a rifle in this case.

Congrats on a super trophy! And serious question...is it correct that African PHs hate muzzle brakes?

Nice buffalo, and yes most PH's hate muzzle brakes just like most shooters in the same zip code hate muzzle brakes. If a brake is needed it should be removable for field use so everyone else around doesn't get all the extra blast.

The proprietary muzzle brake on that thing is unbelievably effective. Here's a pic of the gun/brake. Paul Paul, I took the 416, the deer season before my Afrian hunt, to shoot some rounds to get use to the gun. Fired while sitting on the ground and on the third shot I busted my eye open because I got careless. Good thing there was snow on the ground because I should have got a stich or two. Anyway, I sent the gun to Magnaport for their brake. The gun still kicked, however, I was able to shoot it from the bench with 400gr factory ammo. Three TBBC solids made a 3/4" group at 100.... I used that rifle, along with a handgun, on two of three African hunts and never had a complaint from a PH.... PS- thanks guys for your good words....

Always had plans to hunt the big bad bruiser. Just never materialized. Thanks for the daydream.

incredible buff... I have a 416 Rigby built on an Enfield action... I like shooting it, & would buy more cases, if they weren't so danged expensive...
