Found this ol' ragged thing on one of them new-fangled online auction sites. I've always had a soft spot for the Nimrod and the price sat stupid-low for over a month, so I said what the heck and placed my bet. Went and ran some errands, worked on rebuilding the mower and unpacked some more boxes (we just moved). Checked at the end of the day and what do you know, I just bought me a Bowen. Here's a bad pic: She's chambered in 475 Maximum and that pic certainly doesn't do it justice (I'll have to take some new pics as soon as I find what box my camera got packed in). There's a lovely hint of plum in the grip frame and just a touch to the cylinder. The hammer is a wonderful plum brown. Came with three front sight blades, two Rough Country rear sites (regular and tall) and two sets of grips (walnut and imitation ivory). I know their kind of the red-headed step child of the Maximum world, and it's not mint, but I managed to get if for a decent price and they're not very common. When I contacted Hamilton he said he only ever made a dozen, maybe two at the most. To me that's kinda cool. Hopefully I can manage to put together some decent low-end loads for it as I'm hoping to shoot it a LOT. I'd hate for it to have to be held to a handful of rounds at a time. It's too nice a piece for that.

Beautiful sixgun. That banded barrel to me is the coolest thing. I have examples of the standard 475 and 500 and really want nothing to do with the max version of either.

Nice find.
You're a reloader. It's just a 475 Special with longer, harder to find brass.

Winchester just made a run of 45-70, so getting some should be just a click away! Might have to setup a temporary bench in the garage.

Very nice! Didn't see that one out there! Pretty grips too. If nothing else, load it up with TrailBoss - full to the bottom of the bullet - and let 'er rip! Enjoy! Tim

I shot a couple of cylinders full through one of those; solid grip, steady hand and you will have no problem with one or two hands with full loads.

I really like that! Do you have a good pic of the front sight?

I really think someone thought long and hard about how this gun would be set up, considering all the little bit’s and pieces that came with it. Pictured is the tall sight which came installed on the gun - obviously for use by the slo kids (again, sorry for the lack of image quality as my camera is still MIA). The two other front sights are significantly shorter, probably half the height of the tall one at best. One is a black serrated ramp, the other an orange painted ramp - for full-house target shooting and hunting, respectively. I’m not sure how the tall Bowen target rear sight that was included in the box would fit into the grand scheme of things. Maybe it was needed when running lighter bullets full tilt? Or maybe it was a more convenient way to “lower” the front sight than actually swapping the front blade? Someone with more experience with the Max rounds might be able to shed some light here. All in all, I’m pretty pleased with this gun. I’m not sure how much it would cost to have one of these guns put together today’s dollars, or even what a decent “used” price would be, but I think I did well... even if I’ve got to let a few others go to help pay for it. -Rod
