Found this Smith & Wesson 29-5 Classic Magnum II in a local online classified recently, and luckily was able to negotiate a fair trade on it so I could take it home and call it my own! I was, up until this acquisition, without a DA 44 Magnum, have owned a good number of them but none have really spoke to me. Though a Model 69 is still on my want list, I am patiently awaiting them to show up used at lower prices. Here's the specs on this badboy -S&W Model 29-5 Classic Magnum II -7.5" Full underlug barrel -Unfluted cylinder with recessed case heads (I am a big fan of this for pure aesthetics) -Endurance Package from the factory -1 of 500 made for Acusport in the 1990's -Gun shipped originally with Hogues (I pictured it with a couple other sets of grips I had on hand, unsure what it will wear yet. . .may order a set of Ahrends or Hogue wood grips) -Gun was refinished in the beautiful and durable brushed hardchrome by Ford's Refinishing (I love this finish option on a gun that will be used)

I think you've made a great choice. I prefer the shorter barrels so I own the 29-5 in 5" Classic and 6.5" Classic DX and they certainly do shoot. While mine don't have the recessed heads all the cylinder throats are right on the money and consistent. I think they balance out real well and are just plain "real nice guns."

I would love to have one in 5" also, but this will have to 'do' for now ;-) Hope to get out to the range with it tomorrow!

That is an awesome gun! I like it with the wood finger grooves the best. Contrary to single actions, I shoot double actions best with grips that I also think look the best.
I have had multiple experience's with Ford's in Florida, and every one has been fantastic.

Fine looking gun. Makes me wonder why I sold my DX. Boy it was a track driver.

You got the gun now, now don't bother with the POS model 69.

Targets will be forthcoming soon as my knee will let me walk targets out to 25 and 50 yards, gonna be awhile till 100 sounds like fun. Tore some stuff in my knee two weeks ago and that caused me to have to postpone meeting the guy that had the 44, and my heart sank as I thought for sure he would not wait a week for me to get a ride the hour and a half to his place. . . Luckily he wanted what I offered in trade enough and was gracious enough to give me an extra 10 days to regroup after my ER visit. Hoping to play some in the 100 yard challenge in the Gallery once I find out a load she likes, and my knees up to the trek. Might need to swap the front sight for a Patridge blade, we shall see, but I much prefer them to RR when shooting for precision. Luckily being laid up has offered me some time to load up some ammo, and went through and measured the throats and they are super uniform, and the chambers are very well cut too by my measurements, the SA pull on this thing is incredible to boot! Hell if I get the time I may even bust out the Ransom Rest for load development . . .that's when I know I really like a pistol, when I'm willing to fart around with the gun and the Ransom for a whole day at the range to shoot maybe 100 roundsĀ EDIT: Had to go to my parents farm tonight after work and Dad asked me how it shot when I showed it to him, I told him to grab some ammo and we could find out ;-) Sadly all he had that wasn't loaded like a special was CCI blazer, stapled the target to a fencepost and paced off 25, and in the waning daylight we both shot a cylinder full. This is my group, shooting SA freehand, not too shabby The old man crumpled his target up and tossed it .. . he is getting a bit shaky and isnt terribly pleased with his shooting ability in recent years, but he kept em all in 7-8"

GOSH! I was thinking about a M69 until I saw they are a POS.... That's what my ex-wife's neighbor's third cousin's half brother said too. He knew someone who had seen one once. Someone here had a good one..probably a fluke.
Nice piece, by the way! Looks like my idea of a good groundhog gun. We got tough ones here in Ky. :-) Looking forward to seeing your 100yd results.

I have a M69 and love it. It has proved it self in accuracy for me. No mechanical issues. And it the perfect packing size. 9 time out of 10 it is what I carry when I go into the woods now. Sorry for the High Jack.

I spoke in jest...I'm still looking for a M69. A big brother for my Bulldog.
