What size redding case trimmer pilot do I need to use for trimming my 327 federal cases?

Why do they need to be trimmed? I have never, in 40 years of reloading, trimmed straight-wall revolver cases.
If it were me, I'd get a .311" pilot.

So for the last nearly 30 years I've been doing it wrong? I always hated trimming revolver cases but figured they all had to be a consistent length and have the case mouth square. Too soon old. Too late smart.

Hi new guy new guy here. I just re loaded my first .327 fed mags. The only info in all my books was in the Hornady #9 book. I did not trim the cases at all, and kept the length so it would not protrude past the end of the cylinder on my new Ruger Single Seven, with a 51/2 bbl. I too have never trimmed any of my straight wall brass.
