I'd been shooting 230gr xtps over lil'gun in my round barreled 45 97. I dont shoot quick enough to where a hot barrel became an issue (hoping this is the main problem). I did make several load ramps yesterday for the 357/44 Bain Davis. I used 296, 2400, #9, blue dot and lil' gun. I'm gonna try some of them over the chroney this evening, but this will probably be the last of my lil' gun use.
I was wanting a little slower powder for the 16" B&D barrel. I'd love to find some place to start with 4198 or 3031 loads.

That's as conclusive as I need. I'm sticking with 296 and 2400.
Thanks for the link. -- Br.

Well, I guess something must be going on but I don't know what it could be. When I saw what velocities LilGun was pulling down with lower pressure than H110 on the top side I looked into it and after discovering the powder was "formulated" (for lack of a better term) for use in the .410 shotgun I called Hodgdon to see if the powder was suitable for large bore revolvers and was advised the powder possessed similar characterizes as H110 and 4227 to include similar flame temperature and duration characterizes(sp) as H110 and H4227 and there was a lot of data on the internet (their site included) with load data using LilGun in big bore revolvers. I don't know how fast the 50 rounds were fired in that test but the barrel would be hotter than hell if shot rapidly.

Geez I just loaded up 75 rounds of Lil' Gun under 310 gr. bullets for my new BFR, should I pull the bullets and dump the powder? On another site I read such glowing reports and found 22 grs. shot into one hole at 25 yrds.

Lil'Gun shot well for us but we didn't like it. The recoil felt "faster?" or "sharper" for lack of a better word. This was tested by marking primers with a marker and loading each others guns. A 500 Linebaugh, 454, and four 44 Mags. You could pick out the Lil'Gun from H-110 and 2400 from the recoil and the shock. It also acted like it was running higher pressure. This was not a controlled science type of test. It was experienced shooters confirming a few ideas.

I think if I had some loaded up with Lil'Gun I'd shoot them slowly... Give the gun some cooling time between shots..

So what are the burning characteristics of VV N110? Should I just buy 296 and H110, I can't seem to find any mag. primers where I live. I have some 340 gr. SSK TC made by Penn bullets that I would like to try.

You are just going to have to keep an eye out for primers.... I hate to hear of dealers limiting primer purchases to just a few 100... I don't think I have ever bought less than 5000 at a time over the last 30+ years. I have a good hook-up with a local bullet manufacturer who likes me... He is hooked up good with commercial loaders. I try to give him good lead time when my supplies are getting low... H110 has been my go to powder for a while now... Wanted some H4227/IMR4227 and 2400 to play with in this 500L but bought AA#9 when they were out of stock..

I think if I had some loaded up with Lil'Gun I'd shoot them slowly... Give the gun some cooling time between shots.. I would pull the bullets if it were me, but then I am one that has spent a lot of $$$ finding out about Lil Gun. FWIW I see a lot of folks that say "it shoots great in my gun". Well, it shot REALLY GREAT in mine. My most accurate 454 load at the time was with Lil Gun, and that is why I was loading it. I did not realize the damage until it was too late, and did not know it was the powder until it was too late again....and again..... Pulling bullets is a pain.....buying new barrels SUX! Well as far as I'm concerned the jury is in on Lil' Gun. Went out today and shot a bunch of loads with H110 296 and Red Dot and then shot 5 rounds with Lil" Gun and the BFR was extremely hot after the five rounds of Lil' Gun. Sad too because its my most accurate load in my pistol. What to do with the pound of powder, oh well since I don't reload a .410 I'll have to get a .221 fire ball barrel for my TC. You just have to adapt to make it in this world.
