My S&W model 27 has a sharp square-backed sight, and tends to shave off leather from its otherwise very nice Mernickle holster. How do other shooters with similar front sights on their revolvers deal with this problem? It's tough to hit a target with your front sight all full of leather bits! Likely a holster with some type of sight channel would be the answer; any recommendations? Thanks, GWW

Cut a length of clothes hanger that will fit in the notch of your rear sight and run the length over your front sight. Tape it to stay on top of the front sight. About two inches back from front sight add shim to keep wire the same hight as front. Put your gun up in the holster like this for a few weeks and the leather should mold to it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I ran across an old Safariland holster that is proving to be a good solution too. It has welts of leather along its front and back edges both and these form a sight channel which keeps the back of the gunsight from digging in.
