A friend of mine just bought a new Vaquero and inherited his dad's Lyman Tru-Line Jr press. I have the expanding and seating dies for him but no sizer. I know the full sets are available but I have a lathe and only the sizer is missing. I'd like to make a sizer but don't have enough cerrosafe to cast one of my old steel dies to get the dimensions so how much under should it be? I could probably just measure my carbide sizing ring and reduce the diameter that much from the case dimensions. Will that work or should I turn the o.d. and thread a different die to match the 310 dies?

It's probably not essential to your needs, but be prepared for the steel sizing dies to be tighter at the case mouth than at the base. Carbide dies do all their sizing in a little 1/4 inch carbide insert, so their dimensions are generally tighter than steel, and of course straight for almost the full length of the case. What caliber are you working with?

It's for 45 Colt. I think I'm just going to sacrifice an old steel die and turn the o.d. down and thread it to match the other dies. I'm sure he'll get a newer press once he gets into it more.

If you can find an old die to turn down and rethread that would probably be the easiest. There was a guy in Tennessee that made the gun shows. He bought and sold dies. Can't find his name and number. He had a very good selection at reasonable prices. Axe may remember him from the Birmingham shows.
