MRS. Cousin has had a muzzle loader shoot the 1st weekend of May, since the mid 90's... we've gone down & watched a couple times... he sent us an invitation this year, & since a lot of the shooters are getting up there in age, & a few died the last couple years, the number of shooters has been falling off... added, this year a couple of the shooters families had some serious medical stuff going on, & they were missing 4 of the regulars... so we thought this would be a good year to start shooting...
MRS is using a CVA flintlock that I picked up a couple shortages ago, when you couldn't get primers, I was using a 50 cal that belonged to FIL, before he died...
I don't shoot much muzzle loader... I have a new inline, that I bought for deer hunting, but have never had it out hunting yet, & the flint lock I had out to test function, but bought primers, & put it in the rack...
there are several short distance fun competitions... the poker shoot was interesting... each shooter got one card up, & one down... only the shooter knew what each down card was... then the rest of the cards were stapled to a target, & you took turns trying to shoot the 3 cards you'd need for a poker hand, from 25 meters... I thought I was doing pretty good, with a pair of kings & a pair of jacks... until one of the shooters turned up a 7 to go with his pair of 7's & pair of 10's for a full house & a win of the $5.00 everyone pitched in...
I placed 2nd out of 7 shooters... at the main competition... 10 shots at 25 meters, 5 shots at 50 meters, & 5 shots at 100 meters... each shot is measured at the distance from the center of the bull's eye & the numbers added up... the lowest number wins...
2nd place has to buy beer the next year... so looks like I'm going back next spring ... shot 50 rounds each from both rifles... don't think I've fired that many rounds through a muzzle loader in my life yet
