Markbo, the heavy kicking is a good reason for a scout mount. I'm using my Lyman 457643 405 gr (approx) bullets. What weight does your gun like?

Heh heh heh... unfortunately mine also likes the 405's. I wish it would like the lighter ones better actually... I don't have a lot to hunt that needs that much horsepower! ;D
FWIW I have had some success with 300gr bullets, but only jacketed, not cast

I was afraid of that. I am hoping someday to acquire a Lyman 457122 mold ,a hollow point mold (290 grs),also called the Gould's bullet. It has a good reputation, and should have less recoil. I love my 1895,but the recoil seems more than it should be.

Received my XS scout mount. Overall quite pleased with quality,no difficulty in installation. After searching through my drawer of scopes, the only thing I had to put on it was my pimp-tastic silver bsa red dot. Someday a scout scope, but for now...

Well you could always spray paint that high dollar BSA. You know you don't need a "Scout Scope". Any handgun scope with sufficient eye relief will do. I use Leupold handgun scopes on mine.

Well,I do have a Tasco variable power handgun scope sitting about. I'll give it a try after a bit. If that fails, should I start a poll on what color i should have the bsa painted?

Thanks ronegg,it seems to line up ok. I'm a bit concerned that the scope won't stand up to the heavy recoil.

I wouldn't worry about that for a minute! Tasco's take a beating ... from everyone who doesn't like 'em and from on top of guns too! ;D

Thanks markbo, good to know. Actually moved the scope a little forward and it's better. I am a little concerned that the lever hangs a bit while working the action. Takes some muscle work it past the point where the bolt starts pushing the hammer back. I'll probably pull the gun apart tomorrow, clean, lube and check for binding..

Let us have a shooting report too as soon as you get a chance. Clean, lube and polishing - by polishing or just working the action - should take care of that 'hitch' too.

I think I'll pull it apart and try some flitz in the action and see if that takes it out. The trip to the range will be a couple weeks out. Thanks to a fortunate circumstance I now have a Lyman 457122 on order. Looking forward to trying them.
