I know I am probably posting in the wrong Forum, but the gentlemen here have always been a fount of information and I thought I would try my luck. I have added a nice Officers size 1911 to my small pile of stuff. The grips are original to the gun and, frankly, leave me cold. I am looking for someone willing to make a pair of smooth black micarta grips with small silver inlays (a single bear track) per grip. Any suggestions or crude remarks? Thanks for the help. TC

I have a set of these on my carry 1911 - they provide excellent grip, and are also comfortable against my side. vzgrips.com/gun-grips/1911/gator-backs/gator-backtm-blasted-black-canvasThe company also makes other textures and materials, and offers engraving. Smooth grips never worked for me in a 1911, so my input might be totally worthless. Also I'm not sure if they even make a completely smooth grip - but I thought I'd mention them anyways, because they truly are the best grips I've ever felt for a semi auto handgun.

"Smooth grips never worked for me in a 1911," Smooth has always been a choice for me in a gun that I intended to carry for any length of time concealed. I was amazed at how fast checkering - both on the grips and frame - could wear holes in your clothes. The sticky stuff, like the VZ grips, grabs and holds. I own 2 or 3 pair of Zane's (LSCG) grips and they are excellent. The search continues...

Tangocharlie: Seriously check out Zane, he's very capable and can do near anything you want. Look up his site to see some great examples at www.lonestarcustomgrips.com/. His user name is LSCG, look at the last 10 or so pages at forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=264029. He's also offering some ivory here in the lounge. He just did a set for me for a Ruger Vaquero Birdshead, I've got a thread over in the Single Actions section you ought to check out too. Hope this helps.

TC Medicdave You did not specify if you wanted a beveled edge or a flat one, ( at the base) and if you wanted the grip to cover the mainspring. But anyway you can probably find what you want with some of the makers listed. Some are even making extra thin grips too. Something to think about with CCW. It is funny when we see others from different forums. LOL

Cherokee, tangocharlie's looking for the grips. I've got short thumbs and can't reach the controls on a 1911 lol. It is a small world though and not many places for like minded souls to go look for a fix.

I've got short thumbs and can't reach the controls on a 1911 lol. That's what your off hand is for... Short fingers keep me out of the Glock world pretty much so you're not alone.

Funny thing is with an extended slide release I can run Glocks just fine, and single stack sigs work as well. I usually end up buying a 1911 every couple years thinking I can make it work and end up selling it at a loss out of frustration. I mainly stick to revolvers I can run them just fine short thumbs and all.

For years I chose to stick to my wheelguns. There was just entirely too much going on (in terms of movement) with a semi-auto for me to be comfortable. However, as we age, perspective, attitude, and the willingness to acclimate and learn has added a reasonable degree of proficiency with a 1911. I will never be in Axehandle's class, but he is amazing to watch. As far as Zane's grips at Lone Star - I don't think he takes a backseat to many folks. I own 3 (I think) sets of his grips, and they are all spectacular. The only reason I have not brought him into the conversation is not having seen any of his work in micarta or any inlays. You out there, Zane?
