I fire lapped mine...the stamp on the outside of the barrel was showing in the rifling inside the barrel... I got a Lyman 429215 mold for this gun and regulated the sights for the 215 gr cast bullet. Apparently it likes Herco. That is not a hot load..stout, but not abusive to me or the gun. Mine has Pachmayr's on it...the wood grips will eat your hand. 25 yards, red dots are 1".

Taffin did mention the Bulldog in his 44 Book, he said it was good enough to keep in the bathroom.

The salt loads turned out to be rice loads, my error in memory. Popped something in my right ankle and a sinus infection into my ears, so stayed home. Upside is the glue is drying on top of a couple dozen rice loads downstairs. Test shots sounded like light .38's and recoil of .22. I taped a paper towel over a paperplate, taped both to side of carboard box. Paper towel shredded in similar pattern to bird shotshell. A bit less damage to paper plate, minimal damage to box. Shots from @8'. Used the Bulldog. Should be lethal to wasps yet I'll not try shooting them off house siding. Barn, out building, inside garage etc., yes. Used 3.2gr of Bullseye, with Walter Wads between powder n rice, and on top. Was recpmmended to use 3 grs of Bullseye, stopped adjusting when I got to 3.2grs.. Next time I'll take it all the way down to 3gr.per damage seen.

I'm betting a black powder blank would stuff a wasp? Of course it'd be noisy..... But then it just might set the barn on fire???

I know I'm in the minority and may be labeled a Heretic, but I obtained a "Bulldog" when they first hit the market. In those days it was really poor pickins when it came to anything in 44 special. I shot about twelve rounds through the thing and put it back into the supply chain. Over the years I have seen a lot of people praise them, but you couldn't give me one. I have always loved 44 specials, but, life is just too short to shoot a "Bulldog".

You're welcome to your opinion. Glad you passed it back on. Rather that then hear it's sitting in a box in the garage,basement,etc..

I'm a fan of the 44 Special, but I like the Rossi handguns better than the Charter for small framed work. MP molds has a nice 185 gr. SWCHP based on the 452423 scaled down (from memory it something like the 434423). It usually shoots low in the short barreled fixed sight 44's. He also has a 200 gr. HP (the 434640 Light) which does shoot to the fixed sights and expands very well. Both are quite accurate.
