I perceive most modern firearms as the epitome of an abomination before God.
Those abominations included Ruger's stainless and laminated Gunsite Scout Rifle. I got to shoot one this weekend that belonged to a friend.
That gun is BUILT. It is worth more than the asking price and I do not exactly like bolt actions. The sample I shot, if I didn't know the price, I would have guessed over $1500. Hell of a deal for $900.

I thought $630.00 quite a deal for mine, bought from Cabelas, looks like a Magazine or less through it

I'm more of a handgun guy, but when I was offered an uncatalogued walnut stocked Scout rifle, I bought it.

It is the best bolt gun I've ever shot...period...hands down. And that includes Col. Jeff Cooper's personal Steyr Scout I used to shoot an African plains game class at GUNSITE years back.

I bought one of the first 18" stainless/laminated guns to hit the market. Put on a Burris 2-7 Scout scope with the Ballistic Drop reticle and could not be more pleased. With the center crosshair set for 200 yards I can accurately reach out to 600 with the scope set on 7X. Have been using my standard .308 handload of 46.0 grains of 748 with a 165 grain Hornady SST. Velocity from the 18" barrel is 2650 fps. Accuracy is below MOA. Also replaced the trigger with a Rifle Basix...1.9#...beaks like glass. Have never used the 10 round magazine. Used to use the 3 round polymer but have since switched to the 5 round steel. With 4.5-14x40 Leupold Long Range scope... One rifle left..this would be it. Bob

so tell me about the trigger... where, how much, drop in fit??? that's definitely up the alley of the rifle I'm building have you tried an Alpha mag??? still 10 rounds, but only 2/3 the size. Teflon coated stainless... I have a couple coming, so it's only hearsay that they are the best choice

I have done the RifleBasix triggers on my Remingtons with no problem but for whatever reason I was not able to get it right with the Ruger but that was when I initially tried the Timney. I brought it to my old timey smith could not get the Timney to work and it was sent back to the factory for replacement. He dropped the RifleBasix right in so probably I could have done it also... I may try and have him put the returned Timney in the .308 Frontier. Get them from Brownells...$100.00.
As to 10 round magazines...unless they are coming up over the berm it is just too much weight to carry a around...

I've seen them, but your pictures make it look great! Wouldn't mind having one, to many other projects right now.

Taking mine to New Zealand for red stag and fallow deer. Made the following mods -- Timney trigger, full length XS rail, replaced flash hider with Miculek/DPMS muzzle brake...butt-ugly but amazingly efficient. Conventionally mounted Swarovski 3-9x X 36mm (couldn't make first choice, Burris 3-9x 50mm work on rail). FTW Ranch creek pad. Galco Safari Ching sling. Hornady Superformance 150-gr GMX. Ruger & Hornady are sponsors, BTW.

I blew through $100 in an 8 minute call the last time I was in the airport in Wellington and that was on an Australian mobile with dirt cheap rates compared to an American mobile plan. If I'd used my American mobile I'd still be working on the easy payment plan.

michaelbane.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-hunt-of-lifetime.htmlThe Scout was perfect! And given the day-long steep uphill stalk, the light weight made a big difference for an old guy like me. My guide wants to get a Scout for himself, although he noted the Miculek brake was so loud you could hear it in Australia. Michael B
