Digging around in my small parts stash the other day, I found a NOS 6.5" S&W 38/44 Outdoorsman (Model 23 IIRC) barrel I'd forgotten about. Sometime this morning I remembered this thread and it got me to wondering about that barrel on a flat top .357.
Would a NM .357 flat top (50th Anniversary?) reduce the amount of work involved (it's already flat topped after all) or would there still be enough work needed that I'd be money ahead to just find the best deal possible on a regular .357 BH?

Probably not...and the taper of that barrel might be a problem.
If you look at the guns with N frame barrels they have a different taper than the one you have.
By the time you take 2" off the back I'm not sure that the diameter would be right.

I hadn't thought about the taper! You may have just saved me some headaches and money, thanks!

Tapered ejectorless sheriff? Not this time around! Besides, I'm not a fan of ejectorless...
