The yammering of some of the very-well-intentioned, but VERY misinformed people posting replies to that article is enough to make you sick. Heart in the right place, brain completely off on a long vacation. Col. Cooper was right when he stated that we live in the age of the common (i.e. vulgar in the classical sense) man. Critical thinking skills are in such rare supply that we will surely be looked upon by future generations as those who lived during the dark ages.
Would love to see some pictures at a later date of a successful wolf hunt from any of you folks living in ID or MT.
Max.

Well guys, I'll be buying a tag monday & I hope that I get a whack at one, they're here to stay, all we can do is hope they let us manage them properly. Its true some of our elk herds are in serious trouble & it didn't take very long, there's absolutely nothing to control wolves except man, we got them run down our throats now we'll see if we get to hunt them. I've said before, they are beautiful, one of the most fascinating animals on earth but they are born killers & to have them here in the northwest & just let them slaughter all the cows & calves is wrong & don't think for a minute that they kill only the sick, the weak or the slow, thats an old wives tale! They kill everything, many more than they can eat most times. When they pull something down they start eating, the animal dies several minutes after the dinner bell rings, they don't bother killing them first. Hey, I got kind of wound up!! ;D The truth is you need facts to manage game, you don't do it from an emotional stand point.

I have always believed estimates are low so to help keep them on the endangered lists. Too many folks using emotion as was mentioned before. Too many people see beautiful pictures and painting of the majestic wolf and get the feeling they are just like a dog... I think they are at a much higher number than we care to admit. I have a good friend in the panhandle who says he hears them everywhere and he claims them to be the #1 reason the Elk herd is down throughout the state. He says kill 'em all...This might be the only issue I agree with the Canadians on.
I hope you get a tag and get one Dick, they make a neat mount. Even cooler if you get it with a sixgun, the Canucks can't do that.

In Montana, anyone can buy a Wolf Tag over the counter (residient $19). There are three Wildlife Management Units with individual quotas for each. The seaon (with a few exceptions) runs coincident with the general big game season. The season closes per FWP: • When a hunting season quota is reached in a WMU, the hunting season will close upon a 24-hour notice, but no later than December 31. We'll see if it actually happens (season subject to possible restraining orders/injunctions issued at the reques of the various activist groups). fwp.mt.gov/content/getItem.aspx?id=39546Paul
