I am managing to spend a little spare time thinning out some of the local vermin and coyotes have become plentiful enough to make it worthwhile. There is quite a bit of discussion about the effect of the arrival and expansion of the coyote particularly in reference to the local whitetail herds.
For the most part, I'm using a Remington 700 in .223 but I'd dearly love to get my Ruger No.1 .220 Swift into service.
The Ruger was fitted with a Redfield 3200 24X. Because I need some increased flexibility with old eyes and very mobile targets, I decided to move to a "modern" variable power scope.
Here's my dilemma: the Redfield is a long scope and is attached with Ruger rings to Ruger target blocks. The barrel has three sets of two holes for mounting optics, the 3200 used the wider spacing that's way too wide for a modern scope. I have not been able to find or even confirm the existence of a target block of the correct height to use the rear and middle mounting points (obviously, I was using the rear and most forward and have the blocks for those).
Does anyone have any experience in using a shorter scope on a No.1V?
Thanks,

Mark, I have a Ruger 1V in 22 PPC, which is a very rare gun. I considered scoping and using it one time and decided an offset scope ring set would be necessary. Both Ruger and Leupold makes them I believe.
Probably should just sell mine as it will likely never be used.

I have a Leupold 6x18 VXII mounted in Ruger rings on my #1v in .223. Perfect eye relief and no need for offset rings. I don't know if my rifle has three sets of holes for the blocks, my spacing is fairly close together. You could always shim one block to level the rings.

I have a No. 1V in .223 that I put a standard Leupold VXII 3x9 on and it works great, uses the standard rings that came with it. Ruger does have a pile of rings for various heights, including double offset and extra high rings, including those for 30mm tubes. Look on their shopruger website. Should be able to find something that works with a big objective.
