Finally got to take some pictures of the rifle. Looks the same as all the rest plastic stocked matte finished guns. No character that you get with wood and polished blued steel...
Sort of an odd duck in that it is as big as a full size rifle, but light as most all other rimfires. Not sure if I like the bolt knob. The barrel is free floated all the way back to the recoil lug. I made it a full on WalMart special down to the scope and rings. Medium rings sets the 40mm scope right above the barrel and is nice and low so the POA/POI stays close throughout the useable range. The Tascos now come with a BDC reticle so we shall see if it is close enough to be useful for the round.
The round is quite a good bit bigger than the 17 HMR, and on the plus side, you can actually find them in stock. I've been to 2 WalMarts and left with 8 boxes of the stuff. I'll stop at some others as I pass by them and see if I can get a few more. I didn't really want the rifle, but it seems 22 Magnum is unobtainable nowadays, so this will have to fill in for critter use around the house till the ammo situation turns around.
This is the second stock for the rifle. The original was touching the barrel on the left and flimsy as hell. I could change the POI by 8" at 100 yards by just adjusting my hold on the rifle. A call to Salvage and a new one was on the way. The stock looks the same but it is heavier and the forend is ever so slightly bigger. Now it takes some real effort to twist the forend enough to touch the barrel, so hopefully that will resolve the issue of the shifting POI.
A few observations after 60 or so rounds is that they are pretty accurate, but the barrel needs cleaning often. After around 10 rounds the groups will open up quickly. But, one pass with a bore snake and it is back on and shooting small groups. Cleaning with solvent and brushes also doesn't affect the first shot POI. I am still amazed at that. The barrel heats up quickly. If you want nice little groups, keep it to 3 rounds.
The Accutrigger sucks to me. I am used to really good 700 triggers and this thing is no comparison. It is almost like shooting a 2 stage military trigger. Most of my rifles triggers are much lighter than the little flipper arm that you have to pull back before you get to the trigger pull.
Here is the first group at 25 after sighting it in
The next after final tweaking
Then finally at 100 in windy conditions
Surprisingly the wind didn't affect it much, or at least as much as the trigger.
So in the end, I really don't like it at all. It's simply a POS Salvage like all the rest of them. I hope it serves its purpose for shooting critters around the house, but it won't ever be what I'd call a nice gun. I'll be testing it out more, but I doubt it grows on me.
