For those who may be interested, fieldandstream.com has a story of an Alaskan fishing guide who killed a charging brown bear with his Ruger .454

I don't read F&S. Do you have any details?

Hmm,appears the bear was starving and took a chance. Lucky for that guy he was packing a side arm, states in article that the gun jammed though and he had to finish yogi with a rifle. I note with some amusement F&S article on 25 best ar rifles. Back in '94 their "gun editor" promoted the assault weapons ban. People wonder why I don't read guns rags...

I wonder how he jammed his Ruger revolver?

I am wondering if a primer backed out or if one of the bullets slid forward under recoil to tie up the cylinder.

Missed the first shot, hit him with the 2nd or 3rd and the gun locked up... holy crap! I thought it was funny that his trusty dog headed for home and didn't stick around to protect 'Daddy' in his time of need. ;D

I'd have a talk with Ruger about that. Sounds like he has a smart dog though.

Interesting. In the newspaper article he says his wife was not home so he and the dog go for a walk. In the Field & Stream article, he calls his wife on his cell phone to bring his rifle to finish the beast off. Something not right here.
