Great write up Lee. I have considered the 50 B&M Alaskan. Nothing more than the 50 Alaskan necked down to take .500" bullets.
Could maybe just rechamber a 500 S&W Magnum BFR?

Nicely done as always, Lee! That .50 AK looks somehow "friendlier" than mine and looks like you can actually spend some time behind the trigger with it without beating the stuffing out of yourself. Can't wait to shoot it!

This is very interesting. I was just reading last week on castboolits about the 50 Alaskan in a BFR. Only 4198 was used there though

well done lee. that is a lot of shooting for such a BIG BORE! I'll bet that 585 cast would be one penetrating sun of a gun

As the owner of a Huntington 50-110 BFR I would like to thank Lee for doing this article. I've searched for load data and velocity data with little to no luck. Gun looks great!

Great article. I have a 50 Alaskan in a M71. I need to give the 525's a try. I have been shooting the 450 Barnes Originals. I have only tried the 3031 and RL 7. I have found the RL 7 to be very consistent and accurate. I wish they had Starline brass when I built mine. I had to fire form all of my brass from .348. I'm looking forward to trying some of the powders and loads you listed. Again, thank you Lee.

Excellent article Lee, looking forward to seeing information and conclusions once you reach 1,000 rounds through the gun.

Aside from the always more than fascinating engineering / machining aspects of this article, the one statement that really flew off the page was, "I value aesthetics." Perhaps understated and unnecessary, but oh so obviously true! Great article, great pictures. Thank you, Lee.
