This is eating at me and I feel more fickle than a school girl. I want to get a single shot for some Long range bpcr and can't decide. I've wanted a High Wall for as long as I can remember and a Sharps is on the list also. I had some rolling blocks years ago and miss the fun so I'm looking at the C Sharps 1885, Uberti 1885, or a Shiloh 1874. I was dead set on the C Sharps until I found out they don't use Badger barrels anymore. I know the GM barrels are great and have used them before but the Badger was a selling point for me. I thought about the Uberti to save a few $ for other guns but it's a 1:20 twist, which brings me to a Shiloh. I've found several available from various sources. What ever I get will be used for range fun, hunting, and part time long range matches, which steers me towards the 1:18 twist vs. the 1:20. Does anyone have experience with any of them? I really need to be pushed over the edge on a decision some how and if I get the Uberti, it will leave me the funds for a Colt New Service or another single action. Thanks for any input.

You don't mention caliber but I assume its .45/70. When did C Sharps quit using Badger barrels? I have one of their 1874 rifles (Badger bbl) and its a fine one. I believe the 1-20 twist is pretty standard and I don't know of any real advantage in going steeper unless you planned to use really long and heavy bullets. Mine shoots 500-535grs just great with BP of course. I still plan to take mine buffalo hunting someday, I hope. The only other I have owned was a Cabelas Uberti gun and it too was a fine rifle, but after I had it for a while the made in Italy thing got to me and I popped for the C Sharps and still have it.

Thanks, Nolongcolt. They quit using Badger when their supply dried up in 2012 after Badger sold. I was planning on 45-2.4"(45-90), but a 45-70 would be fine with me. My rolling blocks did ok with 1:20, but most say for 1,000 yards and 500+ grains the 1:18 is better. My main dilema is paying more than double for the C Sharps without the Badger barrel and getting a button rifled GM, so I'd be paying for the made in USA stamp and better wood to metal fit which might not justify it for me.

Still a good quality button rifled barrel will usually shoot with the best of them. My only experience with GM (Green Mountain?) is in muzzleloaders, and there at least they "shine"! You might also haunt the net sellers, chances are good someone has just the right rifle for sale. Good luck!

My local dealer has a used Browning BPCR in for $1300, but it doesn't have the original Soule rear sight with it.
The Browning's were an excellent high-wall type BPCR (I have one myself....), and this one is a whole lot cheaper than a new Shiloh or C Sharps.
Anyway, they are Pinto's Guns in Renton Washington 425-227-9280 if it is of any interest to you.

The Winchester BPCR's are made in Japan but they did use Badger barrels.I have one in 50-90 and I must say the quality is excellent. They were also made in 45-70 and 45-90 as well as 40-65. I would still love to get a Made in the USA Shiloh Sharps out of Big Timber,Montana.

I've seen a couple Mirokus and have one bookmarked, but found a used Shiloh '74 darn near exactly how I'd order one, so with such a purchase I'm going to give it some serious thought. Every one I've considered is still in the running, but it will come down to a matter of priority. Thanks for all of the input.

I have a Pedersoli 1874 in 45/70 (or 45 2.1 if you prefer). I believe it is a 1:18 twist. I also had to add Lee Shaver soule rear sight with Hadley cup and Lee Shaver front sight with level. I don't shoot it much anymore but it was delightfully accurate with heavy bullets. As for Green Mountain barrels, I only have limited experience with their product. I put a Green Mountain barrel on my 10/22 and it is a tack driver that needs little attention to keep the rifling clean. Mark

I believe I found a Shiloh in 45-2.4" that I like. It looks new and has the regular MVA long range rear.otherwise I found a C Sharps High Wall new, but with a Sharps style forend. If I can get past the forend I may jump on it since it's about $500 less than the upgrades would cost.

I bought a C Sharps yesterday with a Badger barrel and Kelley sights. I was about to order a new o e when I found this, almost exactly how I'd want it, even the sights. I just have to ordera Kelley long range staff for it.This picture is from the seller's ad.

It's a 30" heavy. Not sure which Winchester profile that would be close to. Hopefully I can get a load worked up before next year's Quigley match in Forsyth, Mt. Next year.
