Just a memory of years gone by.
When I was a bit younger and more independent I used to take my Mustang GT and load up a rifle in the trunk.
I'd stop along the way and grab 3 fresh cigars (robusto) and a jug of cold water and head to the outdoor range that used to service the troops who guarded Boulder Dam in WW-II.
I had several to choose from but my favorite was my beat up Uberti 44-40 1873 in 44-40 I got from Spurlocks Gun shop (a former owner had let something large and sharp fall on the forearm) but she could shoot.
The iron buckhorn sights were dead on at 200 yards all the way up and that faint plank sound of the lead bullet hitting the steel was priceless.
I'd get comfortable and use the cigars to judge the wind if any. A bit of cold water helped.
I'd occasionally shoot a 7.5" Cimmaron Bisley I also bought from Spurlock in 44-40 at the 200 yard target.
This made for the best time I know of.
The mall ninjas would show up with their scoped and unsighted AR-15s and bang away hitting not much and eventually one might come over and ask to shoot my rifle just once. They would always be amazed they could hit things "way out" at 200 yards with the Uberti.

That's a good kind of shooting, en plain air and free form in good country, makes an indoor pistol lane look like something for robots.

Used to be lots of places hereabouts but politicos have taken over land and blocked shooting in some of the safest natural ranges here. The outdoor range is the nest best thing.
