Ordered a custom mold from Tom at Accurate Molds for my 45's. Two cavities cut for my Alaskan and two for my Clement's Bisley. Took 4 days from order to delivery and that included a Sunday! The 2 holes for the Alaskan are SWC's with dual crimp grooves so you can get the same OAL with either 45 or 454 brass. I had him cut the nose long in order to get the most from the Alaskan's cylinder. The other cavities are kinda like a WLN with a really long nose. This one uses every bit of the custom cylinder, leaving .040" of wiggle room for bullet creep. Looks nontraditional, but isn't much different than the LFN molds that I have...the crimp groove is just moved back. When seated to the same OAL they don't look that much different at all. The SWC is a 340 grain and the wide nose is a 355. These were meant for up close and personal with those critters that have teeth and claws...accuracy was my secondary concern. Mixed up a batch of Satan's lube as well, so I will get try that out as well. The mold casts really well and bullets drop easily. Heats up a bit fast, but with 1400 grains of lead on each pour, I think that is to be expected (it is Aluminum). By far the easiest casting mold I have.

Can't wait to give them a go. My Alaskan has large throats, so it is nice to be able to order the exact size you need from Tom. They both drop just a touch over throat diameter and clean up real nice in the sizer. I can get the 340 down to 0.452 as well, so if I desire I can shoot it in the Bisley too.

John.... since these long heavy slugs are be loaded as fighting rounds in your Clement's Ruger and Redhawk, might want to test bullet pull firing one-handed. In fact, the lo-ong nose should facilitate a stiff powder charge, while deep seating to crimp on ogive. Should a failed experiment contribute to development of a reliable load, it is knowledge in your holster. David Bradshaw
