Mike is that holster basically a Hank Sloan without the hammer cover sheild or is it different? What do you think of the gun for shooting? I keep pondering one of these...

Bill, the Hank Sloan was based off of this holster. Cut is very similar though this one has a bit more cant than the Sloan. So far, I've only shot it with the 44 Special Skeeter load, and I probably won't go over my standard Mary Gun 44 magnum load of 10 grs of Unique and the Keith bullet.

Yea it strikes me as more of a 44sp than a 44mag, but then the power is there if one should ever feel the need...

Mine has been seriously accurate with a Keith bullet and 9.5 grains of Universal Clays. BTW, great looking holster. You definitely need some wood handles on that thing.

Doc I see you've been seduced by the svelteness(?) of the Model 69. I considered them a complete turn off and I have my old 29 from 1958. Then I was handed one at my favorite LGS and I fell in love with the size and balance of the weapon. Those grips have got to be killing S&W sales, Jeez they are ugly.
Bought said 69 on the spot and subsequently put a set of Hogues then Ahrends Combats on the gun. The Ahrends in Cocobolo are staying including the fingergrooves for the grooves fit my hand, and the hand loves the K frame dimensions of the gun.
Shot the 69 again today with the Skeeter load and I love this beast. Love that field holster! Would love it even more if it was on the Port side and it was black and basketweave stamped.

The more pics of these revolvers I see, the nore I think I might have to have one. It would make a good big brother to my .44spec Bulldog. Oh, maybe I'm weird, Ok,am weird, but I kinda like the grips shown. Business-like, ya know ?

Mike thanks for your ideas about the 69. I'm kind of like most, I don't like the lock either. That gun has nice lines, it's a well balanced 5gun, pleasing to the eye. I see is as a .44 Special, that can handle .44 Mags when needed. That holster is beautiful, thanks for sharing.

Mike what do you call the finish pattern on that holster? Very attractive.

I handled one in the LGS recently too and unlike most I was not particularly impressed, especially being that even though its a five shooter, the amount of steel on the outside of the chamber walls is a bit thinnish. Yes I know there is no bolt notch, the weak point in the system but still it makes an N frame cylinder look all the safer. I have no doubt its entirely adequate to handle all but a lunatic load but for now at least I am sticking with the 629 or 29 for .44 magnum. I wont say never.

Somehow the 5 shot turns me off.
I'd druther have my 629 safe queen which has always seen .44 spls only......

This is my field rig now! I have a Pre29 and a 629 Mtn Revolver and a Ruger Bisley 44 Special but I am really enjoying this 44 Mag.
