Anybody here a pipe smoker? If so what kind of pipe and tobacco? I bought my first one today, an H.I.S. an Italian made piece. Not cheap and definitely not top of the line but it smokes good. Also bought some Borkum Riff Bourbon Whisky. I also like a good cigar so I figured a good pipe could be an enjoyable experience. Looking forward to trying some custom blends in the future.

Oh Shit!
Don't start with pipes!
They're even worse than custom revolvers!!!!!!!!!!
Pipe makers JT Cooke, Larry Roush, Scott Klein, Adam Davidson, are some of the Bowens and Clements of the pipe world. Castello, Raduce and Becker are some great Italian makers.
I've been trying to buy from American makers but they are SPENDY.
Take a look at Smokingpipes.com. Pulvers Briar is another good site for estate (used) pipes. Marty Pulver is a great guy and a wealth of knowledge. Sit down first...
West Coast Pipe Show is in Las Vegas, NV this weekend. If I wasn't going oryx hunting I'd be there.
I smoke mostly Virginia flake tobacco. Capstan Blue, Dunhill flake and Orlik Golden Flake are some of my favorites.
Be afraid!

Pipes are easier to hide than big bore revolvers!

Pipe-smoking is a fun "ritual". Pipe-making can be fun too!

I was wrapped up in this world for 7 years, I don't smoke pipes (or anything else) anymore, but I admit I still have about 30 tins stashed away and maybe 20 - 25 pipes I cannot brinig myself to sell. THAT'S how deep this sickness goes! Think about it - I don't smoke, but I still hold onto my pipes and still age some choice tobacco for the future when who will enjoy them?

The heavenly tobacco has destroyed my brain. I couldn't even post my reply correctly! It starts "within the quote" with "This man speaks the truth!"

Well written bandit999. I am in the same boat. At least 25 very good quality pipes stored here, and uncounted tins and jars of 'baccy. I Just sort of stopped cold turkey one day....except for my cigars!
Once we finish remodeling the shop this winter I have a feeling I will be back into the pipeweed, as Mr. Baggins would call it.
