With Rod & Custom having gone the way of the dodo (again ), I find myself in a bit of a magazine drought and am debating True West or Guns of the Old West to move on to another interest and keep the learning going. I've read GotOW occasionally but I've never picked up TW so I'm interested in hearing from TW readers and those who've spemt time with both. Thanks!

Are you wanting old west history or western gun articles? Both are excellent, but one is a gun magazine and one is not.

I used to get a lot of gun rags,,, but I soon found that some were just better than others. I let several subscriptions lapse & haven't missed them. But,,, I have a habit of browsing the magazine section of any store I'm in to see what they have. If I find an article or 3 that truly interest me, I buy that one magazine. I have bought GotOW & TW both for what was in them, not a subscription. I have also bought others. If I find myself wanting more than 4 of any rag per year, I look hard at a subscription.

Are you wanting old west history or western gun articles Old West history AND gun articles. I think I've seen both magazines at the local Wally World so I may see if they still carry them next time I'm there. Fair question Mr Terry, fair question! Don't know the answer yet though... contender, I did the same with car mags and finally winnowed it down to R&C several years ago. Fortunately I was down to one or two issues before it was time to re-up. I've read about a few folks having renewed for two or three years about six months before the new owners shut them down. Thanks!

Dam. R&C gone. I've moved and trying to set up a shop. Bought it off the stands. Like Precision Shooting. Incredible magazine. Gone.

Yes a member of the True West Maniacs Club- life time subcription and all. Love the Shootout of the Month articles.Phil Spangenburger and Marshall Trimble's articles are tops. Marshall grew up just North of me and tells a great story. He is Arizona's Official State Historian.
